I bought BIO SPOT because it was much cheaper than Front Line for my dog.

You can get it at any pet supply store

Just did some research. Wow, dogs are having seizures, some dying, lethal for cats. Here is the site

I know there are lots of dog and cat lovers on this board.

What the heck is this product, anyway? Does it remove urine stains from carpets? I'm trying to guess. . . .

I use Advantix for my Rottie. It's recommended by his vet, and that's where I buy it. It's marked with a caution not to use it on cats. For the cat, we use a product called Advantage. Both seem to be excellent. Expensive, but effective. Aside from hairball medicine, I would never use anything on either of them without the o.k. of the vet.

Frontline for me for my Yorkies. Although I've been buying Preventic for the Yorkie that lives in the woods for the ticks. They have a Preventic-D collar out for fleas and ticks and since I can make two collars out of one it's working just as well. My daughter swears she thinks they only work on ticks but I haven't seen a flea since I've been using either one of them. Using them it's a heck of a lot cheaper than Frontline.

Not for cats though.

Jack....If the Advantage is working on your cats now with no adverse reactions, then you're o.k. Just keep a close eye on any new ones you get the first time you use it. It's the #1 choice for cats that my Vet treats. We've also used Frontline before and it's an excellent product and never had a problem.

We use Revolution for our cats. Last year we had a bad flea problem and one of our cats had a severe allergy to the fleas. We took her to the vet because she was constantly chewing to the point that she left blood everywhere she sat or laid. She was also skin and bones becuse the fleas were sucking her dry. Now she's fat and happy.

We have a 7 week old kitten we just got and he has fleas bad because he was a farm kitty. We took him to the vets today and the vet said that Advatage in the orange tube works on babies that age because it doesn't soak into their system. This poor baby had fleas, an eye infection and a respiratory infection but is the sweetest thing. He is now asleep in my arm and I can only type with 1 hand. The vet gave him 3 shots and we have to put this antibiotic in his eyes 3 times a day.

Meowmix...What is Revolution, and do you get it from the vet, or an animal supply store? The biggest problem I have with Advantix and Advantage is the similarity in the names. Always afraid I'll get them mixed up, except the Advantix comes in a big dog (130 lbs) sized tube and the Advantage comes in a kitty (14 lbs) size tube.

I use Frontline Plus because it also controls ticks & we are loaded with deer ticks because we live in a wooded area with lots of deer & everything else that lives in the woods.

I've had Lyme disease & almost everyone around here has to so a few years ago I was vacinated with Lymerix, two shots a week apart & one a year later. Now I find out it's been taken off the market because of side effects. Sorry I did it because the doctor told me nothing about the possible side effects. If I knew I wouldn't have done it

meowmix, bless your heart, love that story.

sparkz....about revolution...great stuff.

Mcjane

Thank you for answering Sparkz question about Revolution.

Next month I will be able to use it on the kitten so we need to get more from the vets. Kitten (Buster) is already looking better. He was dropping fleas like crazy last night. I had to pick several dead or dying ones off me everytime he laid on me. I haven't seen any on him tonight. This baby is so small. The vet weighed him and he is only 1 lb.

I am trying to find homes for the other 4 babies still on the farm where we got him. These were a litter from my mom's cats. Hopefully the other babies will still be OK. The whole litter had this eye infection and respiratory infection. I know of a lady that takes in rescue animals or other animals and adopts them out. Her daughter works for a vet so these other 4 babies will be able to get the same stuff done as ours did. I have to talk to this lady Saturday and if she wants the kitties we are going to go get them and bring them to her the next day. I will have 4 crying babies in one pet taxi for a little over an hour. It was bad enough with one little one. I wish I could keep them all myself but now we have 5 cats again so no more.

McJane...Thanks for the info on Revolution. I like to know things like this. We had a problem a while back with a cat getting mixed up with the wrong stuff. It cost me 200 bucks to bail him out of the vet's office after they fixed him up.

Meowmix...If I come back in my next life as a cat, you'll find me curled up on your front doorstep

Sparkz--A friend of mine at work calls me the Crazy Cat Lady.

If I lived out in the country I would have several cats. All mine get fixed so there would be no overpopulating.

We watched Animal Precinct on Animal Planet the other night. This woman started out with 2 cats and it multiplied to about 80 or 90. She took care of them but never got them spayed or neutered so they kept mating. The ASPCA had a mobile spay and neuter trailer and brought it to this lady's home. It took 2 days but they spayed and neutered all her cats except the mother's still nursing. The lady got to keep all the cats but the kittens who were to be adopted out. I love cats but I do have my limits. That is way too many for 1 person.

Meowmix...When I was in the moving business, we once moved a lady up to Oregon who had 18 cats. She would take in every stray in the neighborhood. She had a small home on a small lot, but the place she bought in Oregon was 20 acres. She transported all 18 cats at one time in her car. She had to take out her back seat and had carefully engineered a network of small cages to accomodate them all. I could just imagine what it would be like to have 90 cats. In the spring when they all start shedding, you could gather enough cat hair to stuff a couple hundred "organic" pillows. Never can tell, they might sell good on Ebay
