While doing a search of patterns of Noritake china I ran into this. Seller takes ONLY PayPal, must be paid immediately. Will not take checks or money orders. item #733286625. I guess that some do lik PayPal more than others.

I'm with dadofstickboy. I take it all, however they want to pay, but I sort of plead with them to use a check or money order for items selling under $15, and most comply--or use PayPal and add a dollar (unasked for, of course).

I don't hold checks to clear any more, unless they're for a large amount (for me a large amount is over $75!). I've had only one check bounce in all this time, and the lady felt so terrible that she paid for the bank fees.

Some sellers only take PayPal because they don't feel like waiting for a mailed payment and/or don't want to deal with cashing/depositing the payment.

i love sellers who ONLY take PayPal immediate payment and the other variations thereof - won't take a check, won't take a postal money order, will only sell in the U.S., and all the various permutations thereof that make it harder for buyers to buy. several years and two cold checks later (both of which the buyers reimbursed me for), i'll take any payment anyone wants to send me and ship anywhere.

Never thought of that idea stopwhining. Hiding money from your spouse but I guess it would work.

I would like immediate payment into paypal so that I can get their package out the next day. That would be the only way I would accept it.

I like immediate payment as well. I hate having packages sitting around waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for the payment to come. I would rather ship it out as soon as possible. I ship the next day after a PayPal payment is received. A few times I've shipped the same day. However, I can't afford to pass up bidders that don't want to use PayPal.

sanmar, do you just weigh your item to figure up the postage, and hope that it's correct?

Estatesalestuff,

I think we're probably doing something similar to sanmar.

Once a week, we schedule a pick-up from USPS because of the amount of packages. Right now, we're averaging about 12-15 usually on Monday/Tues - and ship 5-6 days a week because the Post Office is very convenient and just down the street.

We've gotten to a point now that we weigh items as we inventory them - add the appropriate amount for packaging. For the most part, we use Priority boxes and new packing peanuts so we know how much each box weighs filled with peanuts.

As long as you end up on the right side of each lb division, you're okay and you only have to be a "pretty good" estimator. If it weighs 2lbs 4oz, it can weigh up to 2lbs 15.99oz and it's still the same price through USPS.

I know sanmar has said he uses FedEx Ground for packages over a certain weight - and I think he also often charges a flat rate for shipping on some items. We may move to that model before too long. We just need to decide how much of a pain it will be to source boxes without USPS Priority all over them to do so.

The Paypal only/immediate payment is an option usually with 'Buy it Now' priced items. I like it as a seller because it gets me some quick money if they use the Buy it Now option. You can also screen out bidders who do not have a Paypal account - I guess the thinking being that with a Paypal account your identity is established. I have used this option, but a buyer emailed me with a request to pay by money order, so I revised the auction to do so since it had no bids.

I do the same as sanmar and the family biz. I very seldom go to my PO anymore. My packages are usually first class and I always add an ounce of two to my weight just for good measure. The Priority one is simple. With the packaging and box I add 1 1/2 pounds to the weight of the object.
This is included in the S/H in my payment and shipping details.

If my auctions end on Sunday and they pay immediately the package is gone on Monday.

If they end during the week say on Wednesday and they pay by paypal immediately then the package is out on Wednesday. Makes for happy bidders, not to mention the seller.
