Does this look like shill bidding to you? It seems odd that she won these items or bid them up, but her feedback is only at 3.

hard to tell...she's only been a member for two days, and her feedbacks are all from different people. if anything, so far to me it looks like someone who may end up overextending herself.

and look at this one too. It just seems odd that these two people are buying so much and from the same seller(s). And neither one is getting much feedback.

Actually, Vintage, she signed up on May 31st. And the one that I am thinking of that she's shilling under left the seller fb, but the seller didn't leave her any. It's so odd. And the seller that I'm thinking of, her auctions weren't going so great and then BAM! These two come on the scene and she is getting OUTRAGEOUS prices for these books. It would be wonderful if she is really getting these prices, that's for sure! But, I just wonder ...

bizzy - looks like yours is getting a bit of feedback but lots of repeats. Her rank may be 21 but her total recieved is 57. Plus all of those that are leaving her feedback have quite a bit themselves. Doesn't strike me as a shill bidder, just a very enthusiastic collector : )

Looks like shill bidding to me.

She has RECEIVED feedback from 3 OTHER seller, and hasn't left feedback for any of them.

And she has LEFT 3 feedback from kate_e_didit, but kate_e_didit hasn't left her ANY feedbacks.

xiaohong623 and mariam5863 seem to bid against each other.

I'm guessing mariam5863 is a shill account, and the seller is sending xiaohong623 second chance offers.

VERY SUSPICIOUS to me. 72 auctions & she has had a habd most of them. These 2 are working hand in glove. Too many for this be a coincidenence.

Well, I have sold at least 9 of the same books in the past, and I got $8-12 for them, so you really do have to wonder what is going on. At first I thought that the bidder was buying up purse books, which would be reasonable, it could be a company, but there is quite an assortment of other items.

All those auctions, and only 3 one-way feedbacks!!!

Looks like shill bidding to me.

I absolutely cannot believe xiaohong623 is going to pay all that money for those pattern books.

Bizzy, you know pattern books, are they really worth all that much?

mcjane: As I said ealier, I have sold at least 9 of those vintage purse books that sold for such high prices, my bids were no more than $15, and that was a good price. I sell craft books, and I have seen a few books go very high, but it is rare, and to have one seller have a whole bunch do so really raises a red flag. These books are not that rare.

McJane -- I have NEVER seen vintage pattern books go for this much. I have had a two newer (but out-of-print) pattern books (now this is in almost two YEARS of selling) go for quite a bit. My highest was $255 and the book was featured. Here is what made me suspicious. Perhaps someone can make this into a link for me.

Amber -- You're right. I am listing a couple of the ones tonight that she sold just to see what mine would bring. I have much better pictures, too. This definitely raised a red flag with me. Take a look at my previous message and plug in the page. Notice who is consistently the high seller!

Diane: I checked the completed auctions on these books, and most of them averaged around $8 each, I think the highest was $46, which is a very good price. There are quite a few listed for sale, so why would anyone pay over $400!!

bizzy & amber, I can't figure out what is going on or if xiaohong623 is in on it or really stupid.

Here is one of mine that I have put up tonight. I think my pictures are much better. Put it on your watch list if you're interested to see what it brings. These pattern books pretty easy to find on ebay. That is why I am so stumped at how she is selling hers for so high!

Diane

Edited to add that I even listing mine similar to hers (and yet set it apart so that my customers know it is my listing) as a type of comparison. I was really curious as to what would happen.

There is another option... Mariam could just be a vengeful bidder. I used to have someone that bid on all of the same stuff I bid on. I knew this person and they used to drive me nuts so after awhile I used to place high bids on low quality versons of the items just to drive them into spending more. After about 4 months they had an extensive collection of very expensive, incredibly average widgets and eventually they went away.

Even now there have been times when some bidder annoys me so I drive the high bid up on them. Of course I justify it by saying that I am helping out the seller

It's interesting that this cozy little group follows each other from the U.S. Ebay site to the U.K. Ebay site. They all seem to show up in the same place at the same time. Coincidence? If they get caught and booted on the U.S. site, they can still continue on the U.K. site.

I was wondering the same thing. $200 for a pattern book is not all the unreasonable if it nets you 40 new patterns to program into your Chinese based crochet machines.
