Amazing! Tourist are in Super Walmart here on the beach buying floats, suntan lotion and beach chairs while the rest of us are stocking up on batteries, candles and food.

They said earlier something about the gas stations not getting any more gas after today or something to that effect and so I had to go join the crowds at Home Depot to buy gas cans (limit 2 per customer). Had to go through that danged line 2 times!

I don't *think* we're evacuating (we bought our generator last weekend TG) but we will keep a close eye on it.

Prayers for Florida!

Glassgrl...Things are looking a little better for you and ltray today, but you are both still in the danger zone of the projected landfall. Check the link I posted at the top of page 2 of the "Dennis" thread. It will update at 5 pm and again at 11 pm tonight as well as 5 am tomorrow. You might want to use the 11 pm or 5 am update to help make an evacuation decision. This may be a good weekend to drive over to Jax. Looks like they will miss most of it. Besides, you can go out to dinner at a nice place and stick Tom and Ralphie with the tab

Evac routes for Bay County
http://tinyurl.com/8q6hj

I'm not leaving unless they call a mandatory evac and even then I'll have to see the storm track and intensity before I'm willing to fight the traffic.

I am planning on staying. Haven't had a chance to be home all summer because of my Dad's illness. I'm finally home and back to work and I don't want to go anywhere!

My husband and 81 yo M-I-L are headed to Lake City tonight to visit friends. The camper is loaded and they are almost ready to go. If worse comes to worse, I will drive over and join them tomorrow.

We live in a "skip" area. Usually the storms hit the coast and bounce inland over us. We get lots of rain and wind, but usually no damage.

I do think Dennis is going to be a truely bad storm, but I feel I am going to be safe. Wish I could say that for the rest of the Panhandle!

Airport is closing down here tomorrow - Noon I think. That's the official word from the airport manager anyway

And I've downloaded new Dial Up Software just in case. Free Netzero is better than nothing as long as the phone lines are still working.

I'm wearing my "I Survived Opal T Shirt" as I leave town for Tallahassee. Glassgrl and anyone else in PC or the Panhandle or in the way of Dennis, I just talked to my brother in law who is a reasearcher at FSU Meteorology and he said the talk this afternoon was of a hit west of Destin. But as he always says "its a hurricane". So good luck to all.

WeeHaH!!! First feeder band of showers just went thru. Dropped about 2 inches of rain in less than 10 mintes.

Good news is there storm is turning. Good for us in the panhandle anyway. Sorry about that for the folks in Louisiana and Mississippi.
