Libra: Back in January I asked a question here about the hassle of changing e-mail addresses. Today, suddenly, we were notified that our provider had gone belly-up and we've been scrambling to fix everything. I have a new e-mail address.

My question for you is this: You had said back then that I should be sure to change my e-mail both with Vendio itself and in Vendio in global preferences. I've done the former, but I see nowhere in global prefs. where that could also be done. Did I misunderstand your message??

I have auctions ending AND beginning tonight and am verrry anxious not to be screwups. Thanks!

Roadsmith...I'm assuming you went directly to Ebay and changed your email addy first? That's #1 on the priority list. You don't want to get suspended because of invalid contact info.

Yes, Sparkz, I changed the Email address the very first thing, and tonight everything went rather smoothly.

I am amazed, however, to see how hard most sites try to HIDE the info on how to do this. I've been having "fun" tonight changing all the things I needed to change in my bookmarks. Yikes.

I could shoot our old ISP for giving us NO warning of their going Phffft. Dang them and the horse they rode in on.

That's good, Roadsmith. Ebay is the most important. If you have any problems with Vendio, Diana or one of the mods in the services forum can bail you out. Be sure you use a different username and password with your new ISP, than what you used with your old. Also cancel the credit card you used with the old ISP and get a new account number. Remember, whoever winds up the high bidder on the servers at the bankrupcy auction, will have access to any info that you gave your old ISP.
That goes for both of your Ebay accounts as well as any web based accounts, such as Yahoo or Hotmail, that you may hold.

One simple way to avoif this in the future is to buy a domain of your own. I use godaddy.com for $7.95a year.

You buy a domain that you like and in the godaddy.com contol panel, you set the "email forward" option to point to wherever you actually want to receive your emails.

I have [email protected] (and dozens of other [email protected]) as my address. I own that that domain, so it's not going away, ever. I have the mail from that domain pointed to my favorite mail system, which is Yahoo. If you send a message to [email protected], it automatically shows up in my Yahoo account, which looks nothing like [email protected] it's just a [email protected] type address.

The neat thing is, that if I decided to switch to gmail or hotmail or somewhere else, all I have to do is change the ONE LINK that godaddy.com knows about. Nothing on eBay, Yahoo, Amazon, or anywhere else. Everything will follow that link to wherever I send it.

If I had five minutes, I could change my entire email system like this. And you don't need to know anything complicated, since godaddy will walk you right through it. You don't have to use godaddy either, any domain registration place should be able to do this.
