I can't remember on which thread you wrote about your GoDaddy domain registration so thought I'd start a new discussion....

I just registered my domains on Godaddy - made me a little nervous to pay with PayPal as I had to authorize them to take money from my account...are they reputable?? They said there was a place on PayPal to limit the maximum they can take (they have default set to $500!!!) but I can't find it!! Did you pay through PayPal?

Ok - now I have the domain name registered..I would like to set up a web site mirroring my ebay store using the ebay Marketplace Merchant Kit http://pages.ebay.com/api/merchantkit.html - my thinking is that I can get referrals on the FVF's on those sales. Do you (or anyone else) know if that is what happens with sales generated via website to store?

Since this is basically a redirect I assume I won't need much stoage space or do you think that the store is actually replicated there?

Thanks in advance for any light shed on this - as you can tell, I am a total novice in this web site stuff!

Definitely respectable. Silly name, I agree, but they've been around for years. I have over 20 domains with them and never had the first problem.

I just use a regular credit card, but if you have a Paypal debit, that would work fine. I don't know if they take PP directly or not, but I'd guess not.

Type in http://www.replaymedia.com and see how my eBay store comes up?

Is that effect what you had in mind? I just put the link for ebay store in the "DOMAIN FORWARDING" section of godaddy.

the other thread was "Hey Libra" or something like that. It explains how to handle the email portion of things pretty well.

I don't use them for web hosting, so I can't help you there. Does this cover everything or are there more questions?

Thanks replay - just a couple of more questions ...do you get referral credit on store purchases when they enter through your forwarded website?

I just looked at replaymedia.com and it goes directly to ebay stores - maybe I misunderstood what the ebay merchant kit does but I THINK that it lets you split up your stuff in other ways (ie more category breakdowns) than ebay stores allows.

Am I right in assuming that you need minimum web hosting storage capacity for forwarding to your ebay store?

Godaddy does take PayPal now - I think they just started in May.

Thanks for your help

Neglus - why use your domain to give more to eBay - use the ProStores!! They get half of 1% with hosting and you can use your domain to direct it to there. Plus you can have as many different catagories as you want.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

"maybe I misunderstood what the ebay merchant kit does"

Oh. I haven't looked into that (yet). I'm just using the regular eBay store.

"Am I right in assuming that you need minimum web hosting storage capacity for forwarding to your ebay store?"

No, I'm not using any webhosting for what I have. I own the domain and have my forwards attatched to it, but no space. For a long time I had been using the MarketWorks storefront as my website, but I've very unhappy with the slow load times there, so I quickly and easily switched to the ebay store. I'll be working on a "real" website starting next week. I thought I was away from that, but apparently not.

"do you get referral credit on store purchases" Just so long as you use the proper URL in the forwarding address it should work fine.

fenix:
"why use your domain to give more to eBay - use the ProStores!!"

Because thats STILL ebay. All your complaints with eBay will still apply to Prostores soon.

TIME Fenix! I just don't have TIME to set up a Pro Store (sounds like the learning curve is high) and list other items than I have listed on ebay. I think I should at least TRY to get some fees back through the referral credit on my existing listings. Looks like it won't take much effort to set it up - and getting 75% back on FVF sounds good to me.

Truly I can't believe that my lonely little website would generate half the traffic that my ebay store does. I still think my time is better spent listing on ebay and moving unsold items to my store.

I may complain about auction sales this summer, but store sales are pretty strong and making up about 3/4 of my business the past couple of days.

I finally got my domain name registered before some scumbag grabbed it. I registered .com and .net...do you think I need to register .org .biz and the gazillion other dots something too ??

Replay - I don't have complaints with ebay. I have copmplaints regardingthe idiot mindset of some of it's sellers and a few of it's bidders as well but with ebay itself? I have no complaints.

neglus,

godaddy is just fine, although i prefer the granddaddy of all of them, network solutions. the one big thing people need to watch out for when registering domains is, there are some where you _think_ you own your domain name but they more or less hold your domain hostage and won't let you transfer easily to another service such as network solutions if you want to. so that's why i went with network solution, they're very easy to work with and they don't hold domain names "hostage." they cost a little more, but you get what you pay for.

It goes directly there because the cookie that gets grabbed when you add the refid thingy disappears real quickly (I think it's even invisible) ...

http://stores.ebay.com/yourstorename?refid=store

use that ^ for your forward domain entry at godaddy ... for 9.95 a year, ya can't beat it.

I have to disagree with vintagepostcards. I used Network Solutions for several years before godaddy came along and they were the ONLY domain registrar. And yes, they knew it, they were the most arrogant and customer indifferent monopoly out there until ICANN took away their monopoly. Now they're trying to play "keep up" with all the newer smaller services.

You do NOT "get what you pay for" when dealing with a monopoly.

"..do you think I need to register .org .biz and the gazillion other dots something too ??"

Doubtful. I registered replaymedia.biz when the .biz extension first came out and were all the hype. I don't believe I've EVER seen any activity in my logs for that version. But then again, they're cheap enough you can go ahead and get them if you're particularly worried about a sneaky competitor.

"It goes directly there because the cookie that gets grabbed when you add the refid thingy disappears real quickly"

Now I'm going to plead partial ignorance on this, but I was under the impression that my eBay store URL was now being sent to the various DNS servers. When you type the domain name, it goes straight to eBay. Something to do with MX addresses or something like that? I don't remember. But it's definitely a better solution than one of the Javascript "your browser will be forwarded" things.

maybe network solutions 'tude changed after icann dethroned them. they were as nice as could be to me and their customer service has been great.

replay, it sounds like your url is getting sent out to the servers. but if you don't have the ?refid code in the html for your store categories, you miss the 75% FVF credit.

" if you don't have the ?refid code in the html for your store categories, you miss the 75% FVF credit."

You're absolutely right, you need the refid thing to get the credit. Just be sure to put that in the godaddy forwarding field too. I don't have it in mine because cause having my domain point to the ebay store is going to be very temporary and I just didn't think of the referral credit it at the time. But there is no reason you cannot use the refid.
