I have a couple of paintings that I am trying to id the signature on the pieces. Besides askart.com is there any other site that can help id a signature?

I tried a couple times to ID an artist and just about 99% of any place I found would give a very little description or bio on the artist but you had to pay to see any signatures or better information. If you find one let us all know. I have drawn a blank on the name of the book that shows signatures but was told your library might have it. Seems artist are a very private bunch and don't want to share their knowledge other than bios about signatures is what I found.

We have a painting, watercolor, from my husband's grandmother's things. I took it to an artist here in our arty town who has a shop because, as I told him, there was no signature and I needed to know if it was trash or treasure.
He took it out into the sunlight and sure enough there was a signature! Then he looked up information on the artist on some site. I don't know what it was, but it wouldn't hurt to show what you have to a seasoned artist who's been around for a while.

Here's a free site for you, with some signatures. It at least should give you some place to start -- provided you can READ the signature or at least an educated guess.
