Hi
anyone know of a way to check a package that went to Spain without insurance?

my buyer made a paypal claim stating he never received the item.

I responded saying he should check with customs they might be holding it there. It was Shipped out on Jan 12th by Air

The customer never emailed me telling me he didn't receive his package he just went right to paypal to make a complaint.

The item was 39.99 and 15.00 shipping,,

After my auctions end I will make it clear in my listing that I will never take another International Paypal Payment. I can not do anything now about the auctions that are running but honestly I am fed up with shipping International.

I sell a lot to International buyers and have always taken Paypal and for much much more then this amount, but I don't think that I want to worry anymore.
Did the package arrive or not? It's just not worth the stress.

Sorry, im just a little stressed out

Toni ... If you have the postal receipt, you might be able to try to track it through your post office. They have to scan the international label, which gives them a number. They can check into it for you. I don't think you can view it online, but I'm pretty sure they can check it for you.

If you still have the postal receipt you can try typing that number into the dispute. I had a scammer think I had tracking and dropped the dispute. Its worth a try if all else fails.

It's too late now, but one reasonable way to deal with shipping PayPal international would be to figure out what your average loss rate is.

If out of the last 100 packages you shipped internationally, one goes missing, you have a 1% loss rate. With me so far?

You should already know what your average sale is, plus shipping and handling. Divide your average sale plus s/h amount by 100, and simply add that amount to your shipping/handling fee from here on out.

If your average sale including shipping is $54.99, just add 55 cents to shipping in the future.

Your $15 shipping fee would become $15.55.

I don't sell internationally but some people feel they must. This technique will help recoup your losses.

Hi

Thanks bizzy and toasted

I ans the complaint before and just now as you suggested I typed in the customs number as the tracking number and I will call my post office tomorrow see if they can track this number..

I have a feeling that it is in his post office but he didn't contact me yet to let me know if he at least checked with them first.

One of my other packages I sent International sat in the guys post office for 3 months, thank goodness he was in contact with me every few weeks and was a very understanding buyer. I was real happy when he contacted me saying finally it arrived and in good condition, cause it was over 100.00 and a collectable.
But I am tired of this worry all the time.

One postcard seller has this in their listings:
ATTENTION to all bidders from Italy ( Italia ) , all orders over $ 90.00 shall be sent via AIRMAIL PARCEL POST or GLOBAL EXPRESS MAIL / INSURED , minimum $ 29 postage )

-- Italy is notorious for having unreliable postal delivery. Still, they have some very sophisticated collectors and I wouldn't want to alienate them.

Well, I guess looking at the way your looking at it FLufF then I have no complaints, in all the 10yrs of selling International this was the first time someone made a paypal complaint, and I like your way of thinking......lol If I do loose this dispute I will make up my lose.

I have to admit most of my collectibles seem to get higher bids from International buyers and i'm not low on my handling for International.

I charge actual shipping air mail only, then I charge material cost/all money transfer fees/handling and I let them know they are paying for this service. Most of my International items are large packages and very collectible, so they need extra care in packing.

But I really do wish there was another payment method because I'm tired of holding my breath till the package arrives. I know money order would be good but none of the international buyers want to pay that way. I tried it and I just give in to them to use paypal.

You could also get a wire transfer-friendly bank (maybe agitprop has some suggestions). Europeans love to pay via bank transfers.

Folks, I don't understand the problem here. If you are going to ship international, just add insurance into your shipping cost.

Global Priority now has insurance for a certain amount built into the cost. If you must ship parcel post, insure it.

Lt, yes your right except if I had to put insurance on my International shipping I would need to go to the post office to do that and I don't want to waste that time. I get my packages picked up at the house everyday if needed.

Insuring is not my concern right now, excepting paypal for International is my problem like now I have no way of checking if the package is in there customs office or somewhere else.

I've shipped some very expensive items to Italy (without insurance) and to date had no problems. Mind you I don't accept PayPal - only bank transfers into my European bank account. I always ship regular Airmail in a plain package with sealed edges to prevent tampering or rifling by light-fingered postal employees. Return address is a Post Office box. Customs description is suitably generic ('used book' rather than 'irreplaceable autographed Tolkien first edition') with low value to avoid undue attention and no enclosed invoice (they go by separate mail). If they don't look valuable, then don't get lost. It's an old system I learned from friends in the jewelry business.

toni, you can't get money orders in most countries. They went the way of those other paper-based dinosaurs - the check or cheque. Everyone switched to bank transfers and debit cards. The only time I see money orders is when I'm dealing with USAians or the occasional Canadian, otherwise it's all electronic bank transfers.

Not only do Europeans love to pay via bank transfers - it's free and often much less hassle, faster and safer than using PayPal. However - you need a Euro bank account within the EU to take advantage of these features. Most USAians don't have a foreign bank account let alone a passport (unless they want to visit New Mexico) The situation in NZ is very different as many young Kiwis go overseas for a few years on their OE (overseas experience) and like me, end up with work visas and bank accounts in 12+ countries... but that's another story.

If they live in an metro area, they can look up AMEX office and get you a money order there, but the cost can be high.
Instead of buying insurance from USPS,you can buy it online with U-PIC and what 's the other outfit called?/ DSI?/

Thanks agit for all the info, but I don't have a bank account in Eu and when I did a money transfer from Norway once the customer had to pay 40.00US dollars for my bank to accept it so don't think that will work for items lower then 100.00

hwahwa I was reg. with DSI but I left them because of the many changes they made if you were to make an insurance claim but I never heard of U-PIC and I will check into this.

If you ship air mail parcel post, not air mail letter post internationally, insurance is included. The amount depends on the weight of the package. Check the PO page and see the details.

I went searching to see what I could find out about the package that never arrived and I came across International post offices........the one I went to to track my package was written in Spanish only, this is what it said when I put the customs form number in

18/01/2007 Recibido en Oficina de Destino. 18/01/2007 En proceso de entrega. 19/01/2007 En proceso de entrega. 22/01/2007 Entregado.

I translated the spanish and it said it was delivered on Jan 22nd so it must mean it is sitting in his post office or his customs office.

This link is for all International post offices,

Hi
Right after I entered the info into paypal dispute showing the package arrived in his country the buyer closed the dispute

Thank you for working with your buyer to resolve their concern. We hope
you found the PayPal dispute resolution process to be helpful as you worked
toward an agreement.

Any funds associated with this payment that may have been considered
"Disputed" are now available for withdrawal.

Tonimar,
I went to this site but I am not sure how to use it. I am trying to track a package going to the UK. I went to the UK section but it comes up with the royal mail section and they do not like my #! Royal mail says the # must have a GB and mine is from the US. Is there another section where I can punch in the number?
Thanks for all your help.
