The set I have has about 5 different marks on the various pieces. Are some more valuable than others, i.e. the Flying "F"?
Is USA better than England?

As far as I know, all of the USA marks bring about the same. The England mark is newer, and doesn't seem to have the value of the older pieces. I believe it's still being made in England.

I have a book that helps date the marks.

If you post pics, I'll get it out.

Don't the older pieces always bring more? That was my understanding anyway.

I've only sold three pieces of this pattern, about 4 years ago. Got these trivets for a dollar each at a thrift shop, sold them each for an average of $95. It seems there are two shapes of DR trivets--round and square--and they're rather small. As I recall, the square ones aren't rare; the round ones are. I was astonished at the prices they brought--and I don't recall what marks they had except that all the marks were roughly the same.

The color of the print tells the age. It was hand painted originally and the colors are a little different. Franciscan started out making bathroom tile in this pattern and tryed the dishes for the heck of it. I think there was 108 different pieces in the set on the Desert Rose and Apple patterns. I use to be a China Buyer 30 years ago.

Here's a link to an eBay review. I hope it doesn't break the board width-wise.

Too bad Sanmar's not around any more. He'd know.

Thanks Lucy - great site to identify the marks. You are right, Sanmar would know all about Desert Rose. Neva

I had quite a bit of it at one time...now I've got a service for four and some of the serving pieces. I sold a service for 8 and most of my serving pieces a year or two ago on eBay.

Prices were nowhere near book, unless it was very rare. Cups/Saucers were horrible. Serving pieces did well.

The older it is the better. The hand painted design on the Wedgewood pieces is inferior to the older items.

Wedgewood, last I knew, still markets this pattern. You could get it in the china section at finer department stores..$50.00 a place setting, I think.
