I've just gotten two vintage dolls that are in pretty good condition...EXCEPT their hair which is a mess! Normally, I let winning bidders "fix up/clean" the items but, in these cases, think a good hair-washing would do wonders. Would I use regular hair shampoo or maybe mild dishwashing liquid? Let the hair air-dry or dry it with a hair dryer? Your advice is most welcome...thanks in advance!

I'd leave the wigs the way they are. Collectors are used to that and washing them could have disastrous effects. Better to leave them alone and get (maybe) a little less for them than to have the wigs disintegrate and really diminish their value.

Thanks, Karen...That was my initial thinking. The dolls have rubber heads with rooted hair...they date from 1988 and 1989 so guess they're not all THAT old. Neither has a separately-attached wig...would that make a difference?

I've wondered in the past whether some of that dry shampoo, that you just spray in and brush out, would work for doll hair. Probably not--since the dry shampoo also is there to take oils out of the hair and scalp.

If you have a doll hospital in your area, you can always call to find out what they recommend. I'm with Karen on this one. Better to leave as is.

I'm going to leave them "as is" and let their new mommy and daddy take care of them. Thanks for advice...appreciate it!
