Ok, that is their words, not mine, "Slashed" starting tomorrow and until 8/5, final value fees are down to 4.5% on the first $25.00. Hip, hip, Hurrah!!(Sarcasm)

Like I said, their words, not mine. I guess SLASHED means different things to different people especially since it is capped at $25 selling price. Don't want to give away the farm.

Might give a boost to all those Chinese sellers who list the same items by the dozens in different categories. (Ofcourse the items do not belong in that category and just clog the search) but if sold, those pennies can add up.

I certainly won't complain about fees being reduced, even if only temporary... but, I also recognize that it's not a huge savings. I figure even if I get some good sales... I'll save just about around $25-50 during the entire time period. Still, better in my pocket than in eBay's!
I think that this just reemphasizes the difficulty that eBay is having in retaining sellers. Their counts are WAY down (hasn't been this few listings since 2004), and they keep trying to use promotions to bump the number up. At least I give them credit for trying something different this time. The 20 cent listing days certainly weren't working (for them, or for the sellers).
That said... this couldn't have come at a better time for me. I'm using the summer months to clear out my photography accessory inventory. I've decided to stop that part of my business completely, and sell only vintage advertisements (primarily on my own website). It's such a relief to know that in just a few months, I'll be pretty much OFF eBay!!! Doing business on my own website is so much more liberating... and after just one year in business, it's also more profitable than listing on eBay.
Which brings us around again in full circle as to why eBay keeps trying all these sales... sellers are leaving... and I'm not sure that these little sales will be enough to bring them back...

Here is another angle.
Yes, the fees are too high, but what about their new listing form?
I don't use a third party company like Vendio, it simply doesn't fit into my overall business model. So I list utilizing the eBay SYI 2.0 or what ever it's called now. What a piece of crap. I used to be able to list an auction in 4 minutes with the prior form, which was worse than the original form from the late 90'-early 00's. With this form, I am lucky to get an item listed in 10 minutes. And that is if eBay doesn't lock up the computer with over-agressive JAVA script.
And eBay is wondering why listing numbers are down. IT'S THEIR OWN *^%$ FAULT. It's simple math. If I could list 15 an hour prior to the new listing form, and can only list 6 items per hour now, that is 9 less items per hour per seller. Multiply that by how many active sellers they have at any one time, let's go conservative and say 100,000. That's 900,000 less listings simply because of their own horrible website.
Personally, I am discouraged with eBay and their anti-customer ways. I am glad that someone here posted about ecrater as a free website store. I love it. It hasn't replaced eBay yet, but that day may come.

Considering the low sell through rate these days, I cannot see a 4.5 FVF for the first $25.00 as much incentive to list when you still have the listing fee and the gallery fee to pay. More of a crap shoot and there probably are better odds in that.

I agree. I would rather have them eliminate the Gallery and BIN fees, but this way they have their cake and eat it, too. They get the high listing fees and can claim they are seller friendly since they "reduced" fees. It really doesn't matter to them if the item sells. They got their fees up front.
