well DH wanted an HDTV and I bought one on Ebay. That's not the problem. He upgraded our home service provider to HDTV also. If you use Close Captioning like I do - it's a can of worms. You can Google HDTV Closed Captioning.
The TV we bought had terrific CC. I could adjust it so the background was transparent and had little letters so it didn't take over half the screen.
The new HDTV box means you can't use the TV CC, you have to use the cable box CC. A lot of HD programs aren't CC.
I'm trying to talk him into going back to regular old cable but I don't think I'm going to win
Now he wants to go to Satellite TV but I think it's the same problem. I read somewhere online that HDMI cables can't even "read" CC.

Boy, am I with you, glassgrl! We have the same situation. Problem is that I watch more TV than DH does, and truly I've never understood how to toggle between TV and Cable and so forth. Sometimes I hit the wrong remote button and have to holler for DH to rescue me.
WHY must each new gadget be more complicated than the one before?!
