I just read the latest AuctionByte issue. A single paragraph related the following -

"We've also heard that eBay is dissatisfied with third-party checkout and may be considering phasing it out. If true, and checkout is only allowed on the eBay site, this could be a significant change for sellers who use third-party providers to list on eBay and use checkout to up-sell and cross-sell customers on their own storefronts. We'll keep a close eye on this story."

The entire article is here - http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y208/m06/abu0217/s01

I'm not sure what I would do if I could not use my Vendio checkout redirect. Could this be the further Amazonation of ebay? Only checkout throgh ebay, and pay with PayPal?

What do you think?

We all know Ebay growth is slowing so ?
But AMZN model does not fit Ebay 100%,Ebay is a place where people visit many times a day to check for new items ,every second every minute someone somewhere is listing something new and exciting, only small sellers can provide such an array of unconventional goods.
I just browse some 18th century Japanese netsukes, there is no way we can all jump on the gravy train and say we have one just like it and ask 99 cents.

What do you think?

I think that Ina Steiner needs to keep a steady rumor stream going so that people continue to visit her site. Page views and clicks sell advertisements, and if it takes sleazy rumor-mongering to achieve that, so be it.

"sleazy rumor-mongering"....Yep, Ina pretty much cornered the market there... in my case I was reduced to insipid, self-serving drivel...that didn't pay either.

Yeah I don't think ebay want to lose more seller right now.
However, if they make a move like this, they would increase their income per listing. Just think about the extra pictures, launch time and template income per listing.
I for one could not afford it.

Bill:
I think it fits with the new link policy. It just makes sense that checkout redirect would be next.

As I mentioned on another thread, PayPal bought Verisign and in our new agreement, we have to offer PayPal when we offer credit cards. Since it is redundant to have both, am canceling my cc processing. However, PayPal has made that just about impossible too.

Both are moving to a more closed environment, like Amazon. I for one, never shop on Amazon. I hate it.

BTW,
If you list an item to be launched later,Ebay does not charge you a listing fee plus 10 cents extra until it is launched.
So,if you are not doing anything else when it comes close to launching time,go to My Ebay and make a revision on that listing to lauch it immediately, that saves you 10 cents.

I hate buying on Amazon too but lately I have had to go there to find what I want. I buy that one item and then get the heck out of Dodge - no browsing, no buying things I didn't even know I wanted.

That being said, somehow Amazon always remembers me even though I clear my cache and cookies every time I close my browser. Checkout is a very simple process. On June 1st I bought three books, one on Amazon, one on eBay and one on Half.com. I received the Amazon book a couple of days afterwards - still haven't received the eBay or Half books. I can see why buyers would go to Amazon.

I think we still be able to use third party listing and image hosting. If eBay would come up with the long promised shopping cart allowing sellers to upsell items in their store then I could see this as a good move. I hate third party checkouts.

that didn't pay either

Michael, you tried to educate and illuminate, and I was privileged to be part of that for a few nanoseconds.

Ina's riding the crest of anti-eBay grumbling, providing fuel for the fire and a safe haven for the perpetually dissatisfied.

It's like the difference between Randy Pausch and Dan Rather.
