I just got this notice while revising a listing - it for a mirror - my shipping was flat rate at $10.00 - how the heck do they know what it weights. I'll smash the darn thing into a million pieces before I lower my shipping - I'm probably going to have to paid some of the shipping myself as it is!!!!:

Attention Seller!

We noticed your shipping cost looks high compared to other listings in your category with similar shipping services. .

We've found that buyers are sensitive to shipping costs. Items with high shipping costs may be less likely to sell and may get less visibility in search results. Listings that violate the eBay Excessive Shipping Charges policy may be removed from the site.

Please review your shipping costs and make changes if necessary. For help, click the Research rates link in the shipping section.

Standard warning, just about everyone gets it from time to time. Ignore it, because there is nothing whatsoever you can do about it.

Don't get upset over it, I get it all the time when I list heavy items. I pay no attention to there warning.

As a matter of fact I just sold a large Crystal caper, listed it for 34.99 (thats what its called) and my shipping for this was 8.00, I got the warning also when I listed it. But the weight for just the piece along is 2lbs, so after packing it will weigh more, there is no way I can ship this for less then 8.00 with the new rates.

And at the same time another seller had the same item listed for 9.99 and 4.80 shipping, how she can ship this for 4.80 would be if it sold in the same town as herself. Hers didn't sell, which I don't know why.

If we try to compete with other sellers on shipping we will be hurting ourself by not charging enough.

I get the warning quite often. I give my computer the one finger salute and click the list button.

Many times I have done some research and know there are no other items just like the one I am listing, so it is pure bullcr*p that Ebay can make a comparison.

it is a matter of 1st grade math;

eBay gets paid on what the item is listed for and what it sells for.....they (for now) get NOTHING for what it SHIPS for..give them time they will try something....

oops...already did...FREE SHIPPING! - we'll lower your fees(because we are getting MORE from the price)

When you get a personalized warning in your messages or they pull your listing, then it's time to worry.

If Ebay lets the Chinese sellers list a heavy bronze incense burner at 99 cents starting bid and 165 dollars to ship,why should Ebay pick on us ?

someone always finds a way to "bend" the terms;

check out #120276922629

FREE SHIPPING...(1¢ item).....ONLY if you use the BUY IT NOW price/bid($6.99 & up)?????

So...basically these listings are at the TOP of the BEST MATCH list, because eBay is NOT looking at the wording inside the description?!?!?

Rhpepsi, I think that seller's pretty clever. I wonder how it affects his DSR's?

I note that in a few of his items, he is charging 45 cents for those who pay by PayPal.

When I was in commissioned software sales, the compensation plan changed annually, designed to help the corporation achieve its goals and, more importantly, our bosses achieve their bonuses. After receiving the plan, we all spent several days figuring out ways to "work the plan", changing our sales habits and strategies to maximize our income. Ebay is far more secretive than the companies I worked for, but clearly, if we want to stay in Ebay, we need to understand the rules and work them accordingly. Edited to add:, rarely did this include working harder. We tried and usually found loop-holes to exploit which helped us get our bonus.
