Did any of you bite on this security key business? I did. I have the danged key here in my hand, and am trying to follow directions, which are different online than on the two cards that came with the key. I've tried both ways, and I keep getting a message that my number should consist only of NUMBERS--which I've done repeatedly and still get the same message. I'm ready to dump the whole idea.

I have used the key for quite some time. I think it's great,

Did you register the key?
When using for the first time, try inputing password without the 6 digit number supplied by the key.
Then you will be asked to press the key and input the 6 digit number.

Also, the key has to be registered on both PayPal and ebay separately.

Adele - be sure you are in lower case for the numbers part. Mine wouldn't accept it the first time, but works now.

Yeah, Bill, I tried that. Nada.

Neva: I'll try your suggestion.

Is this really worth the effort, though, if we have to use the key every time we log into PP?

Neva, for now I'm not sure it's worth it! Another gadget to carry around with me and guard. It seems I must make this extra step of logging in with the security key before logging into PayPal--just one more thing to remember. And if I forget to take the key with me on a trip, I'll have to go to PayPal "to obtain temporary access."

I never leave more than $200 in PayPal. If in the future I start selling lots more, at much more money, I may consider this. For now, I'm not adding one more thing to my crowded schedule!

I appreciate everyone's help here--and maybe I'll have to get stung by a hacker before I understand that I need this extra security. For now, I'm willing to take a chance.

I use it. I also registered it on eBay and when I was out of town last week accessing eBay from another computer had no problems.

That is the key benefit in my opinion. eBay knowing its me on a strange computer.

Beth: When you're at your home computer, do you still have to do the extra step to get into PayPal and eBay?

Unfortunately, yes.

Once you have committed to this course of action then you must super glue the doohickey to your wrist.

And use it EVERY time!
