well, Bill, I am in over my head.
With ebay slow these past few weeks, I've decided that I finally have the time to go through my grandmothers stamps and see if I can make heads or tails of it.
Although some of the stamps are nice neat blocks of four (from the 40's-through the 80's), I also have HUNDREDS of single stamps from all over the world ~ I cant tell what country half of them are from, let alone what year!
A couple of years back, I was told by a coin guy and a comic book guy that the stamp guys are a difficult bunch to deal with and most cannot be trusted so I've held on to these myself thinking I would one day figure it all out.
what a dumb bunny I am.
I am NOT going to figure it all out!!
Bill, can you guide me?? I am SO out of my league!!
thanks!

I'm glad you posted this! My son-in-law just gave me two albums of stamps to sell if possible, and I don't know where to begin.

Your local library will have stamps guides. It shouldn't be tough to quickly figure out which stamps are worth pennies, and which might be worth more.

Or post a scan here, and someone here should be able to tell if there are any valuable ones in the lot.

zoomin, I'll get back to you later tonight or early Sat. AM.

In the meantime, take a look at the blocks of 4. Do the have some of the sheet margin on one side? Are there numbers on one side? Send me a scan if possible to my address-

Something has happened to me overnight. I woke up with difficulty walking, and problem with my fingers. I have had tests and been sent home to bed for 24 hrs.

Bill, Feel around on your head (thats where mine was, back close to neck in hair line) and body for a spider bite. I had a black widow bite me 10 or so years ago and had the same symptoms. I didn't even know the bite was there till I was almost better and it started itching. Doctors tested me for all kinds of things. I hate blood work.

Bill,

I hope it doesn't turn out to be anything serious and you feel better soon.

Bill, those are so scary symptoms!
Hopefully something will be found in the tests ~ rocky mountain ticks come to mind, and other fun such things so please stay on top of this and make note of ALL of your symptoms no matter how irrelevant they may seem! I hope the rest helps!

The blocks of stamps are easy to figure out as they are from the US, some have numbers and some not, most are not worth very much.
Well, saying that is not exactly true ~ they are worth significantly more than their face value but still just a couple coins!

I dont use an image hosting service (stopped that many moons ago when auctionwatch started charging!)

I have HUNDREDS of stamps from different countries that are worth SOMETHING but, unfortunately, from the research I have done (mostly from ebay and philatelic auction sites using the wording on the stamps) these are not worth much more than a few coins a piece unless I am sitting on a needle or two in my haystack. I cannot tell what year they are from or what country ~ finding a book in the local library titled "Who knows where this stamp is from and when and what is it worth today" is not very likely.
I have quite a few used stamps from Posta Romana & RP Romina, even more from Magyar Posta(most of which are from the 50's and 60's). I have no idea if any of them are rare or of value and am trying to find a site for each country that would let me know but I am grotesquely overwhelmed with the amount of items and inability to categorize them.

Bill, when you are feeling up to it, let me know and I will e-mail you a pic of my nightmare. My thoughts are with you! val

zoomin, thanks for your and everyone's concern. What a scare my family had. Last Friday, early in the morning, I woke with a numbness in my left leg, left hand, and left arm. I had difficulty walking, and using my fingers.

My wife, who is an NICU RN, and fortunately, was not at work, gave me the standard stroke test, and with no clear results, left the decision about the emergency room to me. I have been through simpler events in the past, so we went back to bed.

In the morning, things were unchanged, so we called my primary doctor, who took me right in to see what was going on. He said that I had an event which was most likely caused by a small blood clot. I did the right thing by not going to the hospital, because it would not have been treated by thinning the blood.

My doctor informed me that the situation usually clears within 24 hours, as blood flows from other nearby sources to compensate for the blockage. Just in case, he ordered MRI, neurology check, and physical therapy evaluation.

Fortunately, my doctor was correct. The problem disappeared. I have been sleeping ever since.

I consider this to have been a warning. In fact, my doctor told us that I should not hesitate to go to the ER, if a similar event occurs again.

I have the best retirement plan any guy can have. My wife is much younger than me, she is an RN, and has great hospitalization. My plump little body has been bled, poked, pricked and probed and when that wasn't enough, x-rayed, and ulra-sounded. I guess we will soon add an MRI to the list.

I am so glad your TIA went away without any damage. Thank heaven for good health insurance, we would never be able to go to the hospital without it!
