We just purchased a little place on the Gulf, in Steinhatchee, Fl and one of the projections is making a B-line for our little property.

Also use the area of accuweather;

mainly for the local county warnings and alerts, they are updated every 5 minutes.

TROPICAL STORM FAY ADVISORY NUMBER 8
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 1100 AM EDT SUN AUG 17 2008

...FAY MOVING WEST-NORTHWESTWARD SOUTH OF CUBA...NEW WARNINGS AND
WATCHES IN FLORIDA...

AT 11 AM EDT...1500 UTC...THE HURRICANE WATCH ON THE WEST COAST OF
FLORIDA IS EXTENDED NORTHWARD TO ANNA MARIA ISLAND. A HURRICANE
WATCH IS IN NOW EFFECT FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS FROM SOUTH OF OCEAN
REEF TO KEY WEST...INCLUDING THE DRY TORTUGAS AND FLORIDA BAY...AND
ALONG THE FLORIDA MAINLAND FROM CARD SOUND BRIDGE WESTWARD TO ANNA
MARIA ISLAND. A HURRICANE WATCH MEANS THAT HURRICANE CONDITIONS
ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA...GENERALLY WITHIN 36 HOURS.

The speghatti models can't make up their minds, but again, currently, they show the Tampa Bay area to Ft. Myers for land fall.

We are in rural Sarasota County, not doing much as we are always ready for about anything. Not putting up the shutters, lots of food in the house and freezer and a generator that is adequate for home.

We always have this up on the computer, you can go long range and short range for radar:

This is the Hurricane Center, can look at predictions, cones etc.:

neva....updated the above post to include links...STAY SAFE!!

When I worked in Hampton Roads area of VA, our main ioffice would always tell use to TAPE up all the windows...we had A LOT on the front of the store. I never did, figured if the storm hit...there would be glass every where anyways...some may be in bigger pieces but the tape would not stop it from breaking.

But if FAY does show up down there in FL...please ask her to take a LEFT or a RIGHT and bypass Virginia.

I survived Andrew and you are right, tape is useless and hard to get off after as it literally bakes on the windows in the heat. thanks for the info on the weather maps, etc.

Otterop, I thought you lived in Vanc. Island??

ur right Lady. Start making some ice and use up your frozen foods up. If we lose power I also lose my water as I am on a well. I have a good supply of bottled tho. By the way don't know if you know, but if you lose your power you will lose your phone, but if you have an old princess phone lying around you can plug that in and see if it works. I was in Andrew and learned a lot on how to survive. I have no shutters on my windows here so just have to hope the winds don't get too strong. keep in touch

Bill K:

THANKS for asking, BUT:

Tain't looking good right now, and I'm pretty worried...

All my life, I've been super sensitive to HEAT, but it's even worse now since one of my MEDS warns against becoming over-heated...

Once we lose power, I'm a goner...

NTM that Ralphie (like all BTs) needs to stay KEWL...

Wish us luck...

Tom..stay safe and here's an old trick I use when it gets too hot for me:-

Get a nice big bowl of cool water and put your feet in it up past your ankles. It helps to cool you down a lot!

Well, its still blowing and raining. Streets are flooded, bridges closed in some parts. I have lost my power twice for 2 or 3 hours. I am on a well, so when I lose my power, I lose my water.

The center of the storm has moved to the west coast and panhandle but it is big so we still have the other edges that are full of rain and wind. Hopefully by Sunday it should have moved west and the Texans can have it

Hope you N. Florida people are doing OK.

Neva - glad you are all OK. I live in San Marco/San Jose (Jacksonville)and we are still getting some serious rains and winds as well. There is lots of flooding around this area and they just reports that many roads are closed due to flooding. High tide is yet to come.
Our power was on and off for the last 18 hours - mostly off.
I hope Tom & Ralphie are doing OK and still have power.
Are you OK Ralphie????

My only aunt lives in JAX -- the Arlington area. I have tried all day but she has not answered. Hopefully, my cousin (her son)has picked her up and taken her to his house.
She is hard of hearing , and has cats and a dog which she does not like to leave .
This is sure worrisome .

Hope the rain stops .

Is the power on?

I'm sure your aunt is fine, deur1 - Arlington has lots of trees and more power out than most areas.

Many areas are still without power so that could be why she isn't answering (or she's gone to her son's - like you said).

The Jacksonville Electric Authority has been doing a great job to getting the power back up but there were a lot of people without power.

It's finally slowed on the rain but the wind is still blowing like crazy. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Soggy Ralphie & Nervous Tom just checking in

We be both fine, although the KID is sick of getting soaked everytime he has to go out...

Power went out yesterday for 3 hours, and it keeps glitching on & off all day, screwing up my PC, but things could be worse, so I ain't complaining...

Yeah, LadyJ, can't wait for tomorrow

You'll have to get Ralphie a raincoat or dog slicker. He would look great in yellow.
Glad you are OK.

I contacted my cousin, his wife said-
My aunt's power has been off and on. Her son could not convince her to go to his house, so he stayed last night and will tonight.
My cousins power also went off for awhile but is back on, they live in the Brooklyn area.

I just knew my aunt would be stubborn. She is a very intelligent person, speaks better English than most professors. However, since she has gotten older (82) when she gets upset, or excited she speaks only in German.

Glad to hear all ya guys are ok

So glad to get rid of it. Sorry you have to go thru it now
