Does every state fair have everything on a stick or is that just Minnesota? I got the collage idea too late to get shots of the chocolate covered bacon on a stick (new this year) and various other stick delicacies...next year.
We saw Garrison Keillor who taped tomorrow's Prairie Home broadcast, so listen for us - Emil is the one laughing with the Swiss accent and I am the one laughing with tears.

Peptobismol is definitely called for - we ate:
handcut french fries, milkshake from Dairy barn, roasted corn on cob, funnel cake with strawberry topping, cheese on a stick and Norwegian cheese curds (we shared everything)...no room for Pronto Pups or Tom Thumb donuts. I think we hit the main food groups ..LOL

Yes, you can find lots of different foods on sticks at the fairs in California but, sadly enough, I've yet to see any Norwegian Cheese Curds for sale out here.
Chocolate bacon, mmmmm.
The animals, the giant veggies and the crafts are my favorite fair doings.

The Fair...we just went yesterday. We went to the Mickey Dolenz (The Monkees) concert.
Porkchop on a stick! Looovvve it. Also Cheese curds and the bbq pork sandwich topped with slaw. Oh...and the funnel cakes with powdered sugar.
Second round...corn on the cob...on a stick. Salmon quesadilla, deep fried veggies, and for dessert...cheesecake in a cone.
The Alaska State Fair is famous for it's large vegetables. Here are some pictures of some of the large vegetables entered in this years fair. The giant cabbage weigh off is this weekend sometime.
Here is my good looking husband sitting next to the giant pumpkin.
On a side note....Garrison Keillor puts on a fantastic show. We saw him in Hot Springs in April. We were on a road trip from Dallas to Nashville and took a little side trip since he was nearby. It was fun to continue down the road the next day and hear the show we were at on the radio!

ewora - those are some gigundo veggies! I remember selling a postcard of giant cabbage from alaska - but 66 lbs! WOW! BTW - your hubbie IS cute. You just had your first anniversary didn't you?

Thank you! Yes, our first anniversary was in July. We've been together for 8 years though. We took our time making it "official".
That cabbage, in the photo, isn't even the big one. More cabbages will come in today for the big weigh off. We went last year. It's a standing room only event.

Wow, lots of yummy things at the fairs, but the guy beside the pumpkin is a standout.
Chocolate covered bacon, you know that sounds good to me.
