Congratulations to all Alaska residents for their Governor being chosen as the Vice Presidential candidate for the Republican Party!!!!!

Being a Huge Republican myself I was at the rally yesterday and met Sarah Palin. She seems to be a terrific lady and those that I spoke to who know her say she is afraid of nothing. They say she is a tough and very competent lady.

She has to be as she is a woman in a very rough state and has an 80% approval rating.

This is not a political statement. Whether you are Republican or Democrat, if you are from the terrific state of Alaska congrats to you!!!

And for growing some mighty big cabbages which REALLY is not a political statement (but if you'd like to read between the lines for analogies, be my guest).

It looks like this presidential election year is going to make for some lively conversation - no time like the present to revitalize the Vendio ROUNDTABLE http://www.vendio.com/mesg/read.html?num=28&thread=322704 . It seems like it's a rather benign place to post nowaday.

I was ecstatic when I heard that. McCain FINALLY did something right! Now I feel much better about voting for him...

Yes...I have met her. She would not remember me as I am one of many but she would know my husband who has worked in advertising and has been on TV and radio.

I posted a small 20 second video on Youtube of Sarah that I took at the Governor's Picnic in 2007. She's very approachable as you will see.

Alaska is proud. Steve and I have close friends in both parties, and if the rest of the state is anything like Anchorage, everyone is jazzed and energized.

I don't usually pay attention to national politics as I don't think, being in Alaska, our opinions really matter or count for much, but this new development will make it an interesting ride for the next couple of months.

I am thrilled that as of next Jan 20 this nation will have either a black president or a female vice president.A long time coming. I SERIOUSLY disagree with Gov Palins politics so you know where I stand. But applause to McCain for thinking outside the box of "white male".

That is the most sexist, obnoxious thing! Just because he is a white male he thinks a certain way????? How about Obama thinking black - how would you feel about people saying that? Or any other stereotypes? You are no better than the people you cast these stereotypes on - that is obvious.

And here I thought I was the only Republican here...

I think she's a great choice, and is my bet for being the first female president of this country.

Caroline,

As the other Republican on this board I'm with you. I think she was a terrific choice and would be a terrific President!!!

Hey you guys - if we are going to talk politics on the EO, let's do like they do on the Powerseller Board and just have one thread dedicated to the topic. It will be a LONG two months before the election if we have scattered posts on the subject. Of course there is always the Round Table but no one seems to want to go down there....

Caroline,

I took bjboswell's post differently. I thought she was applauding McCain for not limiting his vp pool to white men, not saying that she thought all white men thought a certain way.

So Bjboswell,

Which one of us is right?

I agree with Cherished...I interpreted what bjboswell wrote as McCain thinking outside the traditional Republican "only older white males are qualified to play a signficant role in the leadership of this country" box.

It's progress, I suppose, and it will be an interesting next couple o'months.

I had hoped we had all come to a consensus a week or so ago that we would keep the EO free of POLITICS this cycle, and would TAKE IT TO THE RT?

There is so much to discuss about this "candidate," both PRO & CON, and, a lively & fun session of good ole fashioned MUD-SLINGING is just what the DOCTOR ordered to get my lefty juices flowing...

OTOH, with TWO MONTHS left to the cycle, it would be way too easy to end up cluttering up the EO with political bickering...

That way, Ralphie can continue coloring his:

The GEEZER + GIDGET '08

banners, while maintaining PEACE & HARMONY for one and all in the EO...

I think it could be about 50/50 either way Cherished - so we're both right - it's just that i am just so sick and tired of people who act like they are so open-minded and say they're Democrats against the white-male Republican party - well THEY are the ones name-calling and stereotyping.

I've heard several women making nasty comments about Palin not being able to care for her children properly if she's VP - these are the ones who would be first to scream Sexism if a male said it. They should realize a Sexist comment can come from either gender (and I'm not exactly a women's libber)

I think Neglus has a great idea - let's either do one political thread or move it to the roundtable.

I vote for the Round Table. There is so much to learn from all of you about eBay and selling in a lot of fields. Fighting about politics (and trust me I could get really incensed by some of the things being said) can only get in the way.

"I took bjboswell's post differently. I thought she was applauding McCain for not limiting his vp pool to white men, not saying that she thought all white men thought a certain way."

Cherished Thank you thats exactly how I meant that comment. Caroline and other Reps I humbly apoligise if you thought for a moment I was thinking differently. I was the person during the LONGGG primary process here in Nh that said, "If John McCain tells you he is going to walk down the street and turn left,he WILL do that." I respect him and quite frankly think of him as an honest hard working patriot. I am grateful that he looked beyong the pool of "white men" to find a fresh face, a new voice. I dissagree with Ms Palins opinions, her stand on the issues. If she were a man with the same opinions I would diagree with him,her gender is not the issue with me.. her stands are. Like any woman in the world,I'm sure she will be able to take care of all the pieces of her life, her children, her job, parents. She is no different than any other woman.

PS I am a VERY serious hockey fan... go Colorado Avs!

LOL, prof. Won't discuss my views of Palin here. Like my mother always said. . .if you can't say something nice. . .

Cheryl
Whitman said she and McCain share a philosophy of scaling back the role of government. a point of view partly shaped by her EBay experience. "The EBay model is very Republican in its essence -- it's about making a small number of rules and getting out of the way while not overtaxing the community," she said.

I don't mind the OT threads here, but since there is already a place for this discussion elsewhere, why not take it there.

I know it's easy enough for me to ignore it, but don't you think it would be just as easy to have a political discussion where it belongs? ... and please don't tell me it's not political ...

Hello,

Please try to limit the eBay Outlook forum to eBay related issues (especially right now with all of the eBay changes that are happening). I have locked this thread, but you are welcome to continue it on the Round Table.

Regards,
Nathan
