A friend gave me this 10k gold knife to sell. It's got Sheffield blades. On the fob, it's marked with what looks like an underlined letter "B" inside a diamond. It has the box which is unmarked except for what looks like the letter "C" inside a circle. My friend says she thinks the knife dates from the 1800's. I always like to mention the brand if possible and haven't a clue where to start looking. So, any help, guidance or clues from the Vendio experts will be, as usual, greatly appreciated.

Hi Blueyes,

I would have thought a knife seller would have stepped in by now but since they haven't, I'll give you my 2cents.

Your knife looks to be of the type sold during the the period of 1900 to 1930. Most likely of the watch fob variety. Mark is hard to identify because of the proliferation of manufacturers that popped up to support the mass market created by the popularity of early catalog sales from such merchandisers as Sears and Montgomery Ward.

If you can get your hands on an early copy of one of the Sears & Roebuck catalogs, you may find your manufacturer listed.

Some of the jewelry sellers on the board may recognize the mark. It looks like one of those of so many of the 1920's jewelry manufacturers that went out of business following the Big Crash.

also do a search of "gold pocket knife" and you will find plenty to compare yours to.

I sold a 10 K goldplated knife like yours a few months ago by Colibri of UK,it came from a jewelry store on the East Coast.
Offhand I cant remember the name of the jeweler, but it turns out the grandson of the founder of the jewelry shop was surfing on Ebay and emailed me to say they are still around(the jewelry store).
