I don't know how eBay works these DSR ratings. A couple of days ago my 30 day total for shipping was 4.93, which I was very happy with. I had one buyer leave 7 feedbacks the next day, the only feedback that day, and it went down to 4.88. I thought she must be upset about the postage, and as I have had a lot of contact with her, I wrote to ask if there was a problem, and she assured me that she gave me 5's across the board. Next morning, no more feedbacks, and it had dropped to 4.87. How can it do that? I know it doesn't change much on the 12 month total, but the 30 day one shouldn't change that much. Has anyone else noticed this?

The DSR's are calculated on a 30 day moving average, so basically they will change every day, even if you get no feedback on a particular day. The average reaches back 30 days, so it stands to reason that the average will change day to day as time goes forward.

Does that moving average system also account for the decrease in my number of dsr's since yesterday? Just happened to look at it and they've all decreased by 2 since yesterday.

sword013:I don't really understand that, because for the last 6 weeks my 30 day average on shipping has been above 4.9, so I don't understand how numbers dropping off the other end, and no new feedbacks can maket it drop to 4.87.

Amber,

Re: "I don't really understand that, because for the last 6 weeks my 30 day average on shipping has been above 4.9, so I don't understand how numbers dropping off the other end, and no new feedbacks can maket it drop to 4.87."

Clearly, you received something lower than a 5 in the past 30 days (otherwise your score would be 5). If some 5's rolled off the average, that would lower your score.

I don't mean to be snide, but I think we learned this in elementary school.

We've talked about this before and we will keep talking about it until the stars are made visible. Lack of transparency is an excuse to "fiddle" with things. If you are not accountable, you can manipulate things to suit your purposes.

We discussed before how * numbers seem to change dramatically just before your invoice is prepared and you do not even know what day they will base your discount on, what a crock. They must be working with those mortgage guys!! Talk about lack of full disclosure and the ability to "cook the books!!"

My #s today are 4.95, 4.90, 4.90 and 4.80. Want to bet what they will be on the day they "pick" to base my discount on??

Cash: Of course, I understand that. The thing I don't understand is that if I received less than 5's during the last 30 days, why did my rating stay the same, and then go down 4 points during a 3 day period when I only got one set of feedbacks, with all 5 stars across the board? Is there a delay in the ratings changing? I am not complaining, my ratings are pretty good, it's just hard to understand.

I live in Canada and list on eBay.com, and when listing I get a lot of messages that my shipping is too high, of course it would be, it is not domestic. I have been wondering if eBay actually lowers ratings because of this.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that you had one 4. If your rating stayed the same, let's say 4.9, that means that as many 5s rolled off as came on. So, day after day, it's 4.9; at some point, more 5s rolled off than came on (for the sake of argument, 2 5s rolled off on the same day that 1 5 came on). Voila: the result is less than 4.9.

That's assuming that by "go down 4 points during a 3 day period" you meant going down 4 hundredths (e.g., from 4.93 to 4.89, not from 4.93 to 0.93).

OH MY GOD I'M SUCH AN IDIOT! I didn't even think about the numbers rolling off changing the score - I just assumed it was changing as new ratings were being left - so my shipping cost DSR drops, I see someone who just left me feedback and I assumed she dinged my stars. I was ticked! Especially since I charged her LESS than it cost me to ship.

So of course me being me, I email her - luckily not nasty - just informing her of the actual cost vs. what she paid.

OOPS!
