A friend said this doesn't start until the end of October and I know it will not be enforced until the 1st of the year. Is this correct or has it already been put in place?

I have another question-when the time comes,would the listing page eliminate the option of money order or cash?if so,then we will know the policy is in effect?

My understanding is no more paper payments beginning in late Oct. Which could be anytime after the middle of the month.
I would convert now rather than push my luck on when the actual date maybe. I'm guessing they will announce the exact date, but holdouts may not get much warning, maybe hours, maybe a day or two.

The email I received said-

Offer PayPal, a merchant credit card, and/or one of the
other approved electronic payment methods by October 20 when checks and money orders
will no longer be allowed.

Faster, more secure checkout experience

Paper payments end this October

Beginning late October 2008, all items listed on eBay.com must be paid for using one of the following approved payment options:
Direct credit or debit card payment via a merchant credit card account
PayPal
ProPay
Payment on pick-up
Paper payment methods such as checks and money orders will no longer be accepted on
on eBay.com.

IMHO, if you have any kind of payment other than PayPal specified in your description or in the Vendio payment section, remove it NOW. I think HwaHwa is right, Ebay will remove alternative payments in their payments section, but I will still try to remove them, just in case. Edited to add, if you have a large store, TurboLister is probably the best way to mass revise items, but don't count on it to fix problems overnight. It is a very glitchy program, took 3 days to fix 3/4 of my changes. Allow at least a week to accomplish mandatory eBay changes.

Thanks - I looked to 30 or 40 minutes and didn't find it.
I've changed my setting and slowing removing it from my store items but I want to sell something with very high shipping and don't want to take paypal on it. Guess I better get to busy.

I'd still like to know how eBay is getting away with this? I understand that with the Wall St. debacle that eBay is the last thing our reps have on their minds, but give me a break. This was fought tooth and nail in Australia, but we just lay there and let eBay roll right over us.

Cheryl
Whitman said she and McCain share a philosophy of scaling back the role of government. a point of view partly shaped by her EBay experience. "The EBay model is very Republican in its essence -- it's about making a small number of rules and getting out of the way while not overtaxing the community," she said.

Cheryl, if my memory is correct, eBay tried to eliminate all alternative payments in Australia, including merchant credit cards. By allowing merchant credit cards in the US, EBay has neatly dodged the monopoly bullet. It's clear that eBay does not expect to make money off of auctions and is looking to PayPal for their cash flow.

Those who prefer to use money order can always ask before bidding.

Looks like it has already started..kind of...sort of..

I don't know how everyone else does it, but I send my invoices (what few I have to send that is) from the "my ebay" page and get a copy of it sent to my email. I accept money order and PayPal. Last week I sent a couple and my email copy looked like the usual with colorful ebay banner and exactly like I sent it... Yesterday (9/30) I sent two and the copies came into my email looking quite different.

To the buyer it says (all their words...not mine):

Dear,,,,
Thank you for your purchase. Details are provided below and your total amount due is $,,,, This revised invoice contains items you have purchased from objectsfound, but which are not marked as paid yet. Click the Pay Now button to pay for all your purchases now.

To ensure fast delivery, please go to the URL below to complete payment:

You can pay me securely with any major credit card through PayPal.

I accept the following payment methods: PayPal.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then it shows the urls, below that the Item info and below that (way at the bottom) is the text in "my" words that I wrote in the invoice that I sent. I always send a personal note of thanks. In that section it still shows their sentence from the invoice saying "if you want to mail your payment, please send to: and my address" Now...how confusing is that???
To sum up, they've removed the money order option before they said they would and it ticks me off that they can rewrite that invoice as if it came from me... Not to mention that is says "which are not marked as paid yet"..this invoice is 9/30 at 9:30 pm and the auction ended at 9:15 pm. I don't want customers to feel like it's me saying....what the heck is taking you so long...it's been 15 minutes already.
Thanks for letting me vent.
