I seem to recall someone posting about this in the past. I think they were warning about the pit falls of selling scrap gold but I don't recall what they were.
Does anyone have a link to this thread or any suggestions?

Hi---

I sold some gold, both scrap and jewelry that people were obviously going to melt down. The main issue I had was with the weight as I did not have a gram scale. I had used a postal scale and quoted ounces and tried to convert to grams. Wrong way to go!

Ended up having to refund one buyer but the item did resale.

Also, if not marked, as to kt., be careful or just tell them you don't know.

I also sold dental scrap gold which turned out find when described and pictured as such.

Yes,I remember someone sold some gold and the buyer complained he is getting less than stated .
If you are selling marked gold jewelry, you may have to test different places, say it may be marked 18k gold in the clasp, which may means only the clasp is 18k gold and the rest is not!

They will want to know if its 10k 14k 18k etc. and the weight. As long as all your info is correct all will go easy.
I just sold some scrap around the beginning of the month and all went smooth . I bought a acid kit off eBay years ago and always test the gold before I sell it and I take it to a local pawn shop to have them double check the weight so there is no questions about what I'm selling.

I have a scale & the acid. I checked anything that wasn't marked but didn't check most of the marked pieces. I guess I should as I did find one necklace that was marked 14K but it wasn't. Something made me think it wasn't really gold.
Thanks for the help - wish me luck

I've sold several lots of scrap dental gold recently. Since most dental gold is a standard composition, I didn't mention a karat percentage. I took the gold to my local jeweler who was more than happy to weight it for me on a gram scale. I think indicating a 100% exact gram weight is important information. Sales were good so good luck on yours!

I sell scrap gold occasionally.

I always weigh it on my gram scale and take pictures from several different angles. Some people are looking for pieces they can fix, others for material to melt down.

I always ship gold with Signature Confirmation, no matter the amount of the purchase.

Thanks for some good advice.
I'm double checking everything today (even if it's marked 14K) as the auction ends tomorrow.
I've had several buyers wanting me to add a BIN but I have a bid already and don't want to end it for their offers. Hope I don't regret it.

Here's the thing about BINs. (In case anyone's forgotten.)

The coolest buying incentive these days is only good on Buy It Nows paid for by PayPal. I'm referring to Live Cashback (aka Bing Cashback) which currently gives you 8% back on eBay.

There's also an eBay Bucks promotion going on currently by invitation only.

And then, as always, there are the MrRebates/BigCrumbs sites that rebate you a percentage of every eBay purchase.

One way to respond to a BIN request would be to point out the other ways the buyer could get a rebate.

yes, you want the ebay bucks too. They can be combined with Bing Bucks for a total of 10%. Plus, the more you use the ebay bucks, the more offers you get from ebay. The offer I received this week was for 4% ebay bucks. I combined that with the 8% Bing and saved 12% on a $143 item.

I have 2 accounts that received the ebay bucks offer. I do not buy on the other account as often and it does not get the bonus bucks offers.
