Do you think I should just refund the money now and save time? I am grinning about it now but time will tell if it arrives to their satisfaction. Sounds like feedback extortion could be possible.

"Please pack carefully to prevent any damage during shipping & handling. Once the ornament has arrived & I've examined it to be sure there is no damage & it is as described in the listing, I'll leave feedback. If there is any issue, I'll contact you for resolution before leaving feedback. Thanks for your auction!"

I would mark the item with a uv pen just to be sure they were not trying to do a switch and not worry about further.

The buyer is probably just tired of receiving fragile items that were broken because some idiot thought they could ship unboxed glass in a bubble wrap mailer.

I have received 2 damaged items in the last month because the sellers did not properly package them.

Sounds like a plan, thank you!

Unboxed in bubble mailer, how dumb!

Double box with a 2 inch layer of packing between the two boxes... and definitely use a UV pen.

Have you checked their feedback for others and from sellers? I wouldn't hesitate to contact a few sellers (particularly those in the 100-1000 star range) to see if they had any problems. Those sellers are more likely to reply vs a high volume seller.

I sounds like they have been burned in the past and want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Just do your normal great job and don't worry about it.
Returning their money will just make them mad and bad FB could follow.

I get messages like this all the time. Usually no problems, just OC people. Does annoy me, like I don't know what I am doing and need instructions on packaging, etc from the buyer, but for the most part, no problems from over anxious people.

Thank you all, just ticked me off when I saw it, most likely it is nothing to worry about.

I've received messages like that too and my first reaction is to be annoyed but then, like others here, I think they have received some shoddy packaging and broken items and they have no way to know who will pack well and who won't.

I have also received messages telling me not to delete the images from my auction until after they have received and inspected the item. That's fair game too!

I agree with ladyjewels...just do your great job and wait for the super feedback.

EBay has done an excellent job of inducing raging paranoia in all of us but we can only do the best job we can and deal with anything that crops up along the way!

Buyers need to realize that emails like that send up red flags with competent sellers. Their demands have the opposite effect on sellers when they send aggressive sounding requests. They probably don't know we will be offended.

Merrie,
That is exactly what I meant by my last comment about EBay making us paranoid.

I know most Buyers don't mean to offend us but we have been conditioned by some of the 'happenings' to feel that way.

When I get an e-mail telling me how to pack I always reply and say that the parcel is on it's way and then I explain in detail just how we pack (bubble styrofoam, new boxes etc) and that we have shipped all over the world since 2002. I find it usually settles them right down because they need to hear that we will do everything to ensure that their new treasure reaches them safely.

I am good at preaching it but I still have difficulty 'walking the walk' when it is ME that receives and e-mail telling me how to pack!!!

I agree otteropp, I feel the same way. We are walking on egg shells and when buyers seem picky / petty it gets our radar up and we are waiting for combat, but usually it is just a buyer that is being overly cautious. (Still annoying.)

Had a buyer once that was also a seller, tried to tell me to pack it and write do not bend, and don't forget feed back.

Shipped the magazine like I always do, never heard nothing not even feedback.

My problem is sellers packing so well I have a hard time removing all the tapes and bubblewraps, they managed to create a coccoon using bubblewrap and tapes so the item sleep safely inside.
So what is the best way to open the coccoon?

I buy some items on eBay that I can fix and resell in our shop. Many of these items are fragile and require a 16" cube box to fit properly.

From past experience with bad packing, I send an email that reads something like this...

"Sorry if I am stating the obvious, but I have had a few items like this shipped where it was not packed adequately to protect it from damage. I just ask that you pack it making sure sure it cannot shift and leave a minimum of 2 inches of packing on all sides in case the box is damaged in transit."

I have done this 10-15 times and always get a good response from sellers. I have bought some lampshades where I ask them to make sure to put packing/stuffing inside the shade so that it cannot be pushed in very easily.

Since doing so I have had no issues with damaged items arriving.

Shag, I have received a couple of nice polite notes like yours and have not taken offence to them at all. It's all in the Buyer's choice of words.

Hwahwa....Scissors, my Dear! Just be careful not to wake them up! You make me chuckle!

Sounds like the buyer is reasonable - especially the part about contacting you FIRST if there are problems. I think she/he was just trying to reassure you.

I have often had similar requests, sometimes polite, sometimes quite blunt. I refer them to my feedbacks, where good packaging is often mentioned.

You are probably right, I might not have had enough coffee that morning and everything will be fine, as you said she will contact me if there is a problem before leaving feedback.

Basically, they are just saying "please package well". They have probably had trouble with other sellers in the past who didn't package very well.

I get a lot of super packing comments, and I have found an easy way to make sure non breakable things get there undamaged, and in great shape with happy customers. I use USPS and I first put the package in one of their flimsy shipping envelopes for shipping documents, then put it inside one of the usual boxes. Very happy customers.

I have recently learned a valuable trick for packing fragile items with bubble wrap. I have always been concerned about buyers dropping the item while unwrapping it. The issue I have isn't the fact that they break it, but that they turn around and make a claim that it was damaged in transit.

So, I now use red packing tape when wrapping items in bubble. They can see where they have to pull the tape and it makes it safer for them to handle when unwrapping. I still use clear tape for boxes since it is less expensive.

I have had very few issues, even in the past, but I am always looking for tricks to make things better. I came up with this idea after my tape supplier had a special on brown tape (which they no longer have). Thought I would share.

I use the brown tape just like you do with the red.
Another tip: If there is more than one item, like a set of stemware, I bubble wrap separate and then tape them together. That way they can't bang against each other on the trip.
