Buyer purchases item from us, pays via paypal immediately, then emails me minutes later stating they apparently made a mistake, but aren't sure that they did.

They bought 1 piece from a full set of something we sell. According to them, they thought they were buying the complete set, even though we state 4 times in the listing that it is a single piece from the set and the actual piece (there are 9 different pieces) is unknown b/c it is sealed in a box. This is like a pack of baseball cards where you don't know what you get until you open it.

So, I copy and paste one section that clearly states it is a single box. Then she emails me stating that she still wants the piece, but wants a specific piece (don't they all)... again, this is not part of the listing and it states so.

I am clueless how to email someone and basically tell them that they are an idiot for not reading the description... without making them feel like i am calling them an idiot. lol.

I copied and pasted the full description and sent it to her. This all could have been alleviated if she just read that damn description.

I know what you mean but to be honest I blame this mostly on ebay's listing page.
I see sellers with photos that say something like "Please read description below".
It's happen to me and caused me to get 3 1's on everything except free shipping. I know it was that buyer because that was the only item that I offered free shipping and all the 1's came on the same day.

I understand if something is unclear for a buyer and they ask questions before bidding or buying. She didn't do that. She read and interpreted what she wanted.

I wouldn't feel this way if all I received was her first email, but the 2nd email asking for a specific item from the set was clear indication that she didn't read the description.

why not refund her money and ask her to read and then purchase.
Sometimes you cant just blame the buyer,I have seen photo showing 2 identical items and then the description said price is for one.
There are so many sellers,so many terms and there are Ebay terms,Paypal terms,Seller terms, and then you see other sellers similar items, same seller other items.
All buyers want is to buy the item, not to rewrite the encyclopedia .

HWA- My business partner pointed out that it was obvious she only wanted one particular piece and was probably fishing in hopes that we would send her that one piece. Problem is that 1) everyone wants that one piece 2) the boxes are sealed and there is no indication on the packaging which item is in each box.

When you are in elementary through high school school in this country, you are taught to read EVERYTHING first. When you learn to research a topic for a paper, you read everything first. When you sign a contract, they tell you to read everything first.

I can't be responsible for every idgit that doesn't read the description. The primary color of the text I use is white on dark gray. In bright bold blue letters it states, "If you want the full set, please visit our eBay store." "- What is a blind box? A blind box is sealed, content identity unknown. Each box contains one piece from the set."

This is stated several times. Just because people prefer to browse a listing isn't my fault when they buy something.

One of my suppliers once said to me-'when I was in retail,it is tedious work but the margin is better. Now I am in wholesale, life is easier but the margin is so so.'
We should all pick our own poison, wholesale or retail?

we went to a street fair last summer on Mississippi St in North Portland. There are many great shops, restaurants, and bars. At the street fair there were hundreds of vendors. Only those serving food and alcohol were busy. Every retail business on the street had mediocre business, the tents with art, t-shirts, jewelry, etc also were not busy.

The beer tent was jam packed and you had to wait for people to leave to get in. The margin is even smaller in restaurants and bars, but it seems like there are as many restaurants and bars as there are people here in Portland.

I read this thread again and try to understand from the buyer 's point of view, the seller is showing a set of 9 pieces and state you get one piece and you dont know which one you are getting as the box is sealed.
Why would anyone wants to buy a piece when she does not know which piece she will be getting?
Unless she does not care, any piece is fine or she is hoping seller is a mind reader and send her the piece she wants.
And for the seller, why arent you selling the complete set,if you do,you dont have this problem?

I sell do sell the sets too, as I note in the listing.

The reason why the contents are unknown is because this is how they are sold in Japan. This is to encourage trading amongst collectors. This is no different than buying a pack of baseball cards or grab bags. You don't know what you will get.

This has been done with sports cards since the 1940's. Originally, cards were sold as a bonus to buying a pack of cigarettes or gum, but b/c they were popular, they started selling cards in sealed packs where it was a surprise what you would get.

There are people on eBay who open the boxes and try to sell them individually. The issue is that some pieces are more desirable than others and the less desirable pieces don't sell. So, these other sellers have to raise the prices on the pieces people want, and lower the prices on those that people don't want. Some pieces get listed for $4, others get listed for as much as $50... yet the $4 pieces sit there and never get sold. A single box is $16 including shipping. The piece she wants would cost her $50 from another seller who opened the boxes... then you have customers who will complain that they received an open box.

See my point?
