Have you been on vacation or something? They started this on the 19th for non-store sellers and will add it in June (or is it July) for everyone else.

I knew the change was coming. I just felt like complaining about how greedy ebay has become.

If you offer free shipping, your FVF for the item is 1% less,'IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO OFFER FREE SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!'

eBay sellers that had buy it now for $.99 and shipping of $39.95 are the excuse eBay uses.

Maybe I just don't get it, but what is the difference between paying 9% of a $1.00 item with $40 shipping and paying 9% of a $41 item with free shipping? Is there something I'm not seeing?

it is the same,it comes to $3.69 for auction style listing.
But if your item sells for 40 dollars and free shipping,it is $3.60
Ebay wants you to offer 'FREE SHIPPING' not 'add shipping to the price of the item'.

The difference is that, if you get the TRS 20% FVF discount, it will not apply to FVF of the separate shipping costs.

Geez- I meant that BEFORE eBay started collecting FVF on shipping, sellers would underprice an item and overcharge for shipping. Thus avoiding paying higher FVF's.
That was eBays excuse for charging FVF on total amnt.

How greedy can ebay get?

That question assumes there's a limit.

I would hope that any buyer would be smart enough to not fall for the low selling price and the high shipping costs.

Besides for quite a while now if you put in too high a shipping cost, you got a warning before the item was listed and if you did not change the shipping to a more REASONABLE amount, your listing would not launch!!

So, those issues of bad sellers avoiding Ebay fees have been addressed. This is just Ebay's way of taking another bite from the apple which is near the core already. They already get a bite of shipping costs through Paypal, so they are getting a % of your shipping fees twice now!!

"I would hope that any buyer would be smart enough to not fall for the low selling price and the high shipping costs."

Why would the buyer care how much the shipping cost is, if he's still getting a deal on the total purchase? eBay is the only party that was "loosing out".

But what if you are listing a phone book?
it may be 99 cents but shipping to RWANDA with tracking would be 50 dollars?
As for Paypal,if you pay with credit card, then a percentage goes to Paypal merchant account provider.
Yahoo Shopping always base their commision on the total amount (item plus shipping),no one complain because it is not a lot of money like 2-3%

I wish they were a little more loose.

That's true hwahwa. Perhaps they should screen their sellers. But, I think they are out to get their pound of flesh out of all that they can.

I have not sold on Ebay for over 4 years. I'm glad you posted this. So they are actually charging 9% to the seller for shipping charges? Unbelievable.

'screening their sellers'?
On Ioffer, while the staff is sleeping, scammers will open shops using other sellers' photos and descriptions and accept Paypal payments.
You may shut one down, but they just open another one in no time.
It is spreading to ETSY,copy the pictures and description line by line and price it 1/10 of the asking price ,they dont even have a Paypal account set up so any payment made to them via paypal remains `unclaimed'.

If the scammer does not have a paypal account, how exactly are they making any money?

say you are the buyer and you make payment to their email account which is not registered with Paypal.
It will show as 'unclaimed' in your account and you can cancel it if you wish.
To claim this payment, seller must register with Paypal.
I dont know why they dont register with Paypal, but Etsy allows other forms of payment say credit card and check and money order.

9% is not necessarily accurate. there are a few factors. 1) the category you are listing in. 2) the more expensive an item is the lower the rate is.

If I sell a $50 item including shipping, I am actually paying 12% on that item in fees.

However, I just paid about 7% in fees for a $1750 item.
