Hi, all: For the first time I'm listing a couple of items with free shipping, which I mentioned in the item description. I wasn't sure what to do with all the shipping parameters, etc. The listings failed with error:
"The following message was returned from the scheduler while attempting to list your auction:
The venue ebay has possibly returned the following message:

05/09/2011 06:30:00 PM US-Pacific Time Zone

1. Error 10019: Inconsistent shipping parameters.
* ShippingService is required if Insurance, SalesTax, or AutoPay is specified."

I need help from someone who offers free shipping! ~Adele

Under SPECIFY SHIPPING, have you changed "calculated" to "fixed"?

and you also have to 'choose' a shipping method, First Class or whatever

I also just learned that I have to put "0" in the shipping cost box. Like if I'm sending via media mail, I go and check media mail and put 0 on that line. Who knew! I guess it should have been obvious to me, but it wasn't. Old age. . . . phooey.

So, ... are you sending the item for Free by Media Mail?

Bill: Yes, I built into the bidding cost some $$ to cover shipping. This is just an experiment, you understand; I'm not sure it'll work for me.

I haven't decided yet what I'll be doing with shipping. I hate to be back in a corner but I feel that is what is happening. I'm pretty sick of ebay trying to run my business.

They don't want to run it, just profit from it. Running it is a byproduct.
I can't understand how "building in" shipping in an auction can save you anything on final value fees. The item is only going to bring so much, as the buyers figure in the shipping cost of auctions that charge shipping and bid accordingly. You're getting the same amount whether you charge shipping or not.

I add a handling fee of $1 to all domestic shipping. The $1 covers any extra eBay FVFs on shipping.

What concerns me is that since I ship by weight - if there is an error in calculation of a multiple item order, there is no refund from eBay on shipping overcharge.

If you recall the memo sent out by Ebay,it reduces the FVF of the item by 1 %(??),so if you offer free shipping, your FVF fee is lower.
Some of you old timers may remember when Ebay listing fee is 5 cents, seller can bid on his own auction and FVF is like 5%?
Placing a reserve on your listing is free.
There is no Paypal, bidders paid with checks or money orders or cash.
Making money was easy, first bidder proxied 50 dolars and the second one comes along and he has to bid 50.50 to top him,an item which costs 75 cents can bid up to $50,no one complains about listing fee or FVF fee when you are making such a killing on Ebay!
Then came Billpoint,Ebay insurance, then Paypal, then resolution center, item not as decribed, item significantly not as described, suspension, reinstatement, etc etc
