I notice shipping is now higher, much higher than before FVF is imposed on shipping, and all these expedited shipping,it seems sellers dont want to buy boxes to ship first or parcel and dont want to get a low rating on shipping?
Buyer has to pay 7-13 dollars to ship a small item in USPS priority box,I am talking about a small item like 1 by 1 1/2 inches?
Also insurance with USPS is more expensive like $100 costs $2.50 when it only cost 1.00-1.50 with private insurer.
And the Post Office is crying they only have 4% of the total domestic package delivery business and they are losing money as more and more people email each other, they need a bailout?
before Ebay,I used to spend 40 dollars on postage in a year, and now I am spending thousands of dollars!

I buy boxes from Uline, they are nice and fairly reasonable if you buy 100 or more of the same size. With the fvf on shipping it is costing more and more to sell. I do the best I can to save buyers money, but try not to cut my own throat. I may have to raise my handling fee from 50 cents to $1.00 to cover some of the fvf.

People do not have to use those "free" priority boxes. I find good, usable boxes everywhere and use them for priority fairly lightweight items, spending much less money.

Also, you can buy some bubble envelopes and ship nonbreakables in them.

I just think it is wasteful to ship something priority that could be shipped 1st class unless the buyer wants it fast.
I offer both when I can and let the buyer pick. This also helps keep the fvf on shipping lower.

I am surprised so many sellers use priority boxes to ship, may be the free DC?
I order from Uline as well, but shipping UPS can be expensive considered we are buying large quantity.

Two things about the Postal Service:

1. First class mail doesn't pay for itself and the Congressional oversight committee has warned it will be phased out "soon."

2. The Postal Service loses money year after year because it is required by law to pre-fund lavish benefits for retirees.

So,what will replace first class mail?
If we are not writing nice letters to Aunt Martha in Montana, there is no need to give us a break?

Some people dishonestly use the free USPS Priority supplies and do not pay mail Priority Rate postage. They turn them inside out. They, then pay the lower cost for mailing their packages.

That in reality is not honest.(of course in a candy coated society ) Many called it business savvy.

Postal employees are catching more and more of these "resourceful" people.

Phasing out 1st Class packages most likely happen.

The road to success is always under construction

The insides of the Prioity boxes are now, and have been marked for some time. That option is no longer available to the cheaters.

In addition to what deur1 said. If you are shipping parcel post in a camoglagued box, it will cost you about the same as priority.

That idea of turning priority box inside out faded years ago,I remember people were also using USPS priority shipping label by cutting out the top part which said USPS priority!
But Fed Eexp ground accepts USPS priority boxes!
Folks are still using priority supplies for internal use, tapes are popular!

Sorry, I do not know all the dishonest ways folks use materials made availible to those that use USPS Priority Mail to ship.

I ship most things under 2 pounds via Priority Mail and use Fed Ex for the rest.

1st class is good up to 13 ounces, otherwise you have to ship Parcel or Priority. Larger items via Priority is very expensive, especially once you hit OS1 sizes.

I can ship the same item through Fed Ex with Insurance Coverage and Tracking for $16-18 where USPS Priority will be $30-35.

As for the claim that USPS has to pay for pension plans... That is a stupid argument.

The most significant costs USPS incurs is having to ship EVERYWHERE in the USA. Their zone system means that someone in a major metro area's package costs the same as someone 3 hours away in the sticks (if they are in the same region). FedEX and UPS add surcharges to cover these expenses and don't serve everywhere. They also don't ship on Saturdays unless it is Express/Next Day.

On top of that, USPS hasn't kept up with the modernization of technologies. Their Click N Ship software is terrible. They should be improving their online systems.

They also have huge overhead in operating windows. It always amazes me how many people will stand in line to purchase a stamp for one envelope they are mailing. The guy at the counter will spend 3-5 minutes and resources on charging less than a buck to mail it.

Waste is the biggest problem for the post office.

Years ago USPS comes up with a nifty idea, thats was before PAYPAL and everyone was sending personal check, postal order or cash for Ebay items.
The buyer and seller both open account with USPS and link them with their bank accounts.
buyer will make payment and USPS will hold on to it until seller shipped the item and the DC shows it has been delivered.
Then the $$ is released and deposited into seller bank account.
Unfortunately not too many people know about this ,we dont hear about it anymore, wonder what USPS did with the system?
Also wonder if USPS realise what kind of work is involved resolving squabbles like item significantly not as described ?

USPS has only 4% of the package delivery business, you would think with all the Ebay and AMZN sellers,USPS market share would be more!
