It is me who is on Vancouver Island.
The quake was just off the west coast and they first said it was 6.8 then downgraded to 6.4.
The land closest to the epicentre is not populated....it is pretty wild and wonderful.
I am in Victoria on the Southern tip of the Island and we didn't feel it at all here however it was felt in the North Island and mid-Island areas.
I just received an e-mail from friends who live in the town I used to live in (Parksville/Qualicum) which is half-way up the Island and they really felt it. It was also felt across the water in Vancouver and in as far as the Okanagan area which is north of Omak, Washington and apparently down as far as Seattle.
It amazes me that we didn't feel a thing in most parts of Victoria.
No reports of damage anywhere and no tsunami as it was a sliding earthquake not and up and down one ( I forget the difference between subduction and the other one). It was apparently a 'Crustal' quake which means it occurred in the top 15 kilometers of the earth's crust.
There have been records of many aftershocks up to 4.9.

We had an earthquake on the east coast a few weeks ago.Not very strong and no real terrible damage, some broken windows, Washington Monument has some cracks.
Lately we have had a Hurricane Irene and then some awful rains from another Hurricane Lee. Massive flooding. What is going on??

otteropp: I don't know about that, but the weather and such has been unusual for NJ this year. Lots of snow in the winter, very high temps in the summer and record rainfall.

Yes, you have certainly been going through it in the East and then it has sent the remnants up to the Eastern Canadian Provinces causing flooding etc.
On the West Coast we had an unusually cold and damp Spring and July but August was wonderful and this week we have Temps in the mid-high 70's which is really unusual. The good thing about it is that it cools down at night to what would be normal for this time of year.
Our local meteorologist says that we are going to have a weak La Nina winter which means more rain than usual...hey this is the West Coast...we expect rain!
