Have any canadian seller shipping overseas been all of a sudden been affected by ebay buyer protection plan.

We know that the cheapest shipping way to get package overseas take 8 to 9 weeks, but this buyer protection plan is screwing with this shipping arrangment, so now if you send a package overseas, the buyer protection plan will screw you of product and the money. It only allows you 5 weeks and the buyer will contact ebay and paypal to stop payment, plus get the product for free.

solution, contact canada post and let them know your concern, ask canada post to start making reciepts with tracking numbers for packages under 2 kilos.

even if your package weighs more than 2 kilos, the buyer protection plan will still stop you from making money, for shipments overseas.

i believe canadians are getting screwed by ebay thinking we are all americans, preventing us from selling overseas

For several years now I have insisted that all overseas shipments go by AIR MAIL even if it means losing a sale when someone asks for a shipping quote.

I have had no problems since. It is always nicer for the Buyer to have cheaper shipping but just not worth the aggravation for them or us to use the cheapest method.

I'm confused. Doesn't all international mail go by Air Mail?

No Bill, we can send Surface mail and to places like Australia, UK, etc: it can take 8-10 weeks.

8-10 weeks,and by slow boat!
This is probably the reason why our post office (USPS) got rid of surface mail, not to mention some packages could be damaged by humidity.
If they contain organic material ,they could grow fungus, maggots ,they could smell, spill over and affect other packages, not to mention making life unpleasant for those who have to deliver them!
Australia is far away,no one wants to wait 8-10 weeks for their Ebay goods, better to mail by air and make them pay.
As to asking Canadian post office to come up with tracking for suface packages,it would need the co-operation of the postal system of other countries, they may not want to be bothered.

hwahwa.....100% correct on all points.

I find even with packages sent by Air Mail for example to the United States that the Tracking Number stops being tracked at the US Border.
The same is true when I buy from the US...I am rarely able to track a package with the tracking numbers. Luckily I am not as paranoid as some Buyers and just wait patiently and have never not received a package.

OT: Well...we are off on a short vacation this morning to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary!

1st: happy anniversary!

2nd: even from the US, I have stopped international first class since you cannot insure or track. I have had requests, and it is cheaper, but not worth the trouble.

3rd: even shipping international priority, I have had packages to Australia take 3 - 4 weeks, while others have taken 8 or 9 days. Why? No one can explain it to me. I had a international priority package to Australia sit in Chicago for 10 days!!

I ship many packages by first class mail overseas, what I do is buy insurance with U-PIC.
Say I charge 9.95 for a small item, postage is like 5 and the rest is spent on buying insurance.

I think you will find that no mail goes by ship anymore.

Canada Post explained to me that there is a place left on planes for the mail, and airmail always has priority. The surface mail goes when there is room after all the airmail has been loaded. There are times when it could be quite quick, and other times is there is a lot of airmail, it could be much slower. That is why there is such a discrepancy in International surface mail times.

here is what canadian post does, the cheapest route overseas takes about 8 to 9 weeks, mail usually sits in a giant crate, for like 6 weeks in canada, then they ship it out, air mail which takes 3 to 4 weeks , again sits in a crate and they ship it out

some people said shipping first class is the only way, yes if your package weighs very little, but for packages over a kilo it can cost a lot, and over 2 kilos even more, and i am only talking the cheapest way, air mail , forget it, international buyers freak out on shipping when packages travel air mail, the price is too expensive

the problem is this, canada post is condsidered by ebay as a uninsured country, canada post has being sitting on asses on this issue for years, maybe canada post is scraced by ebay, don't know.

i talked to canada post supervisors and asked these questions, my response was, this is what canada post does, which told me canada post is a determent for doing business on the internet.

if you want to pay a lot of money to ship, ok, but try telling that to international buyers, because people do not want to spend money like that, and right now international buyers will buy my product, but only if shipping is cheap

and now you have a issue with the USA post office which will probabily closed down this winter, because US post office can not paid their bills, so i think most canadians will be screwed for sure, dealing with ebay, in the next coming months

USPS fixed rate priority shipping using their boxes go to 4 lbs ,using your own packaging,it can go to 20 lbs which is more than 2 kilos.

Try to find local consolidator/freight forwarder and see what they have to say.
