I just found out that I have a Trojan virus.
I think I got it from Facebook. I'm trying to clean it up now.
Is it necessary to change all my passwords once I get my computer cleaned?

I don't think you need to change passwords with this type of virus. It depends on your personal comfort zone. I change pw's every couple months and rarely download anything off facebook its a virus breeding ground.

I would change passwords. You have no idea if any or what information was compromised.

Better safe than sorry...

Hello,

Don't bother changing passwords until your 100% sure that your computer is clean or you'll just be sending the new passwords to some hacker - unless your doing it from a different computer that you know is clean.

How can you get a virus from Facebook or did you approve some app etc?

I'm not sure it was facebook but I got a request for what I thought was a message but it was a game.
I'm still trying to get my computer cleaned. What mess

Well it wasn't facebook after all. The scan log shows that it was there a lot longer than I knew.
I got rid of the virus but it took out my wireless and ethernet adapters so I can't get on line to do anything about the mess I'm in now.
I guess it was time for a new computer anyway so I got one and I'm back up and running now - the only problem is there is no "port" for my old printer.
Nothing wrong with my old printer and I really don't want to buy another right now.
Do they make cables to connect old printers to new computers?

It would depend upon how old your printer is. If it has a serial port and your new computer doesn't, then you will be better off buying a new printer. You may also find that the driver for your old printer is not compatible with the new version of software on your new system.

Let us know the model of your printer and the software on your new system and someone here can chime in.

Thanks LtRay (I wish you good luck with your family situation)

The printer is a HP Deskjet 895Cse

My new computer is also a HP but all I see about printers talks about USB or wireless printers only.

As a temp fix - I hooked up a really old computer and just reprint my label there.

It looks like the price of printers have really gone down.

It hard to believe all the work that goes into getting a new computer set up and in the middle of all that I had to renew my Real License today as tomorrow is the last day. The good news is I got a 97 on the exam.

WOW what a week

I'm using a HP 895CSE, have been for 11 years. The back of the printer has a USB socket and a printer cable socket. Ceck it out.

PS Windows 7 recognized it immediately when I got my new computer.

Thanks a million Max.
I just got back from Walmart with the cable, plugged it in and I'm printing away again.
Maybe my week of misery is about over.

A few more things my wise friends.

When I got my computer, they wanted to do a set up at the store. It cost something like $29.95 to update Windows and remove all the free stuff on the computer. It would have taken about 3 hours and I didn't have time at that point. They said they could do that anytime in the 1st 14 days.
Is that really needed? I know it's been a long time since I got a new computer but it sounds a bit fishy to me and Windows seems to be updating itself just fine??

Also it came with 60 days free Norton but just before my crash I purchased AVG 2012.
AVG is, of course, on my old computer but can I get it transferred to this computer?
If so is it better to activate that 1st and then remove Norton? I don't want both on the computer at one time.

Yes, i suggest that you do it. They also can take care of the Norton, etc. My husband had it done on his laptop and it saved hours of "foolin'" around at home. Dropped it off, went and ran errands and picked it up ready to go. Well worth $30.00 to us.

Fishy to me as well I would do it myself you can spread that 3 hour job over as much time as you want and keep the 30 bucks in your pocket. I'm sure AVG has away to transfer to you new machine.
If you bought a Dell, as we did a few weeks ago, Norton wants to hang in there. I ended up going into my computer and deleting it before it would allow me to download our personal favorite virus program.
