Someone gave me a flat of strawberries. I know I can't eat all of them before they spoil, and they are so good I would hate to waste them.
I have heard you shouldn't wash them first. Is it best to slice them or freeze them whole? Any other tips you can give me so I don't ruin them?

You could invite my wife over. She can eat strawberries at such a rate that she makes a disposal look inefficient. I'll prepare a bowl of them and sit them on the coffee table when I blink they are gone. I'm assuming she eats them because the speed is such you can't see it with the human eye.

Mornin' -

Chococake - I've used both the dry and syrup methods suggested on the URL Bunnicula provided.

I prefer the dry (sugar) method. If you've ever purchased a frozen bag of strawberries in your store, you know how they look and feel when they're defrosted. They will be more firm, when defrosted, if you use the dry method. I'd also suggest you clean (and drain) them, but leave them whole rather than cutting them up.

I use the asorbic acid the site recommends too. I use Fruit Fresh (brand name) that can be purchased at your grocery store.

My favorite fruit to freeze are peaches. I do slice those and they are absolutely wonderful when defrosted. Still firm.

Remember to use the frozen fruits within a short period of time, for the best flavor.

uaru - LOL - I can identify with your wife. If I were there, the strawberries probably wouldn't make it to your bowl, let alone the coffee table. Yum yum.

bunnicula - great link thanks!

Linda - thanks for the tips.

I always have to put sugar on the ones I buy from the store and let them sit for awhile. These strawberries are so sweet I've just been eating them the way they are, and they're huge.
