The indifference of store employees never ceases to amaze me! I went into Eckerd Drugs a few days ago to get a few things including a birthday card for my wife. When I went to the checkout there was no one at the register. I waited for several minutes and happened to notice a young girl in the entranceway smoking a cigarette. I knocked on the door, and sure enough she was the cashier. She came inside, rang up the sale, and I went home. I immediately noticed that the birthday card was missing. I went back to the store and had to wait to speak to the cashier because she was now on a personal phone call. Why did I not believe her when she said that she ran after me to give me the card? I later called the store manager to report the incident and she did not seem too concerned.

Last week I attended a meeting of a Professional Women's Resource group. When I got out of my car I nodded to a woman who was heading towards the same building I was and ended up walking a couple of paces behind her. I was carrying a box of books and had my purse balanced on top - it was obvious my hands were full. As we got to the door, a man had approached from the opposite direction and entered ahead of us, holding the door open for the other woman briefly. She stepped through and allowed it to close in my face. I thought to myself that that was rather rude; I know she was aware that I was there.
It turns out this woman was in attendance at the meeting. After general business matters were attended to, we each had to stand and give a 30-sec "commercial" for our business. This woman was the first to stand and introduce herself. You'll never guess. She is an Etiquette and Manners Consultant.
Perhaps it is just not proper for one woman to hold the door for another? I guess I need to brush up on my Ms. Manners reading.
I couldn't help but to giggle at the irony of the situation. I was so tempted to whisper the scenario to one of the women at my table, but didn't know any of them. Thank you for giving me a place to tell.

How sad but awfully true!....Recently, I have found myself complimenting and thanking anyone who is polite and actually DOES her/his job....Politeness used to be the norm...now we have to look for it...
And road rages!! Oy!
Thanks, femme...you brat... This article awoke a longing for the past (That's when one starts feeling old..)
