Nope, it's not a man that has me swooning.
However, it was a man, specifically, my husband, who introduced me to my new heart throb.
He now has to pay the consequences of his action.
Every Sunday morning, he rides to our favorite GMC-Volvo dealership to look at trucks.
But, he erred when he came home and insisted I should see a Volvo on the lot.
Now, I wasn't looking to replace my current Volvo, but, what the heck.
Yep, I fell hard.
It was sharp, sexy, sporty and silver. It was everything I would want in a.....car.
Yesterday, I paid the dealership a visit and told the salesman that he obviously is not aware of the 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not tempt Femme.
Nevertheless, I rode tested it. I was pretty sure I was a goner when I noticed that my favorite classical station was playing on the radio. I took that as an omen that this car was to be mine! mine! mine!
WHAT A CAR!!!
It's the S80 T-6 with twin turbos. Lots of power. Handled beautifully. I could feel myself weakening. We won't even talk about all the toys.
I entered into negotiations. We were getting close, but I did not commit. They insisted I take the car overnight and continue the negotiations Tuesday. (More temptation.)
I told the salesman today that I want it, my husband wants it, the dog wants it, but the cat was holding out for better terms.
The cat won.
Rose II (yes, I name my vehicles, don't you?) and I will be one on Thursday.

femme - LOL I asked because my husband and I did that in 1989. Each found a new car (mine a Mustang and a new truck for him) that we just had to have. Bought them both and between the two new cars pymt's. and the new insurance rates (on one salary), we swore we'd never again have two car payments at once.

A bit over a year ago I saw an ad in an IKEA catalog that came to my house. That's it--just an ad with a picture. Love blossomed. My heart rate increased. My breath came in gasps. And the one overwhelming though in my mind was "I MUST have one!"
That was on a Tuesday. By Friday I had arranged a loan through my credit union at work. On Saturday I headed out to get my dream car. But everyone wanted one, it seemed. No dealer had one in stock. Not even for test drives! A lot of dealers were quite rude in their attempts to puncture my balloon (you & everyone else--you won't be able to get your hands on one for months!). The following Saturday I visited a dealer who treated me well--and didn't laugh at my desire. I laid out the facts: I had a loan arranged. I was serious. I was willing to leave a deposit. I didn't care about color & though I'd prefer a stick shift, I'd take an automatic if I had to. He gazed into my eyes & realized the depth of my desire & agreed to take a $500 deposit & put my name on the list.
The following Tuesday I received a call at work. The dealer said "A silver one has come in--are you interested?" At my piercing shriek, others in the building knew. The woman in charge of the adjoining department shoved me toward the door: "Go," she said. "I'll watch your desk for you!"
Rushing to the dealership, I found a crowd of 15-20 people gathered about my car, drooling on the leather interior. Fiercely I fought through them mumbling, "It's mine! It's MINE! My salesman fought off other salesmen who wanted to use *my* car to give others test drives.
Finishing my paperwork in record time, I was soon driving away in my gorgeous, silver, 2001 PT Cruiser.
This was truly an impulse buy. Something about the mere *picture* of this car made me LUST for it! Sight unseen. Without a test drive! But in the year & 3 months I've owned it I haven't regretted it once. The best car I've ever owned.

saabsister's quote made me think of something stephen king wrote in his book Christine, about the smell of a new car. But I cant repeat it here or AW would give me a 30 day vacation.

Thanks for the link, KRS.
I especially enjoyed reading it (didn't know I was fluent in Japanese, did you? )
Didn't realize how much larger the S80 was compared to my sedan until I pulled it into the garage.
You can go from fully automatic to manual gear. Didn't know what that was all about, so asked the salesman what that means. He said it means that should I feel the need, I could race another car down the highway (or something to that effect).
WooHoo!!! Something new to do on a Saturday night.

My appointment's not until 5:30, Sulyn.
I expect this to be my last car, as I drive very little anymore since closing my business. Of course, I said that about my current car. Never say never.
When we travel, we take my husband's truck. Just can't beat it for comfort.
BTW, I know where you can get a good clean Volvo 850 with only 50,000 miles. LOL
