You'll probably never see this, but yes you can get virused through yahoo, and nortons should pick it up IF you have norton configured to scan email AND you have done very recent (like daily) updates.

Thanks krs! I have been updating my Norton every day, though to be honest most days I am told there are no new updates and I am current.
I do have Norton set on my default email, but do I have to add all the other mail accounts like Yahoo? I know there is a space for adding email accounts in the program.

Yes, you need to add your other accounts, apparently, even though they're probably all POP3 mail servers.
It's odd that you are getting no updates; It's making me update usually with a reboot every day. I've never seen them so active. Your version is 2000? I also use norton's firewall and some of the update material relates to that, but there's been viral stuff each day.
I have Norton 2001...doesn't support web-based mail. I've had all my web-based mail forwarded to my regular protected email account, hoping that any virus will be detected...then I could go back to my web-mail and delete the infected mail there, as well. Here's what I found in Norton's help file...
Norton AntiVirus does not support the following non-POP3 email clients:
Exchange Server clients
IMAP clients
AOL clients
Web-based email, such as Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail
Norton AntiVirus works with Secure Password Authentication on POP3 clients. It does not work with other protocols such as X400 (used by Microsoft Exchange Server), IMAP, AOL, and HTTP.
edited to say: I've been getting live updates to virus definitions almost every day lately...including this morning.

Also, be careful with Norton. Quite often, when trying to update, you will get the erroneous screen telling you "No Updates available; all current updates installed", or something like that...
Periodically, they have a problem with their Live Update, and their solution is to download the latest Intelligent Update Installer...And if that does not work, then it is the full Un-Install/Re-Install routine...
At least, that was true of the Norton Internet Security. I got so tired of their bugs that I finally change to Panda Anti-Virus, which is a breeze....

I have Norton SystemWorks 2000. After my "wiping" by Norton a couple of weeks ago, I have been thinking of getting a new program. Especially since Symantec insisted what happened didn't/couldn't have happened.
Anway, I check my defaults on Norton 1st thing in the AM to be sure they say "ask me what to do" and not "delete" and I stopped the weekly routine scan and do that mannually now. I sure don't want to walk away and come back and find that awful "Norton found an infected file and deleted it" ever again!!!!!!
I did get an update yesterday that required a reboot and one this AM that did not. It was the same one krs mentioned. However for the most part of last week I did not get any. After connecting to liveupdate, I would get the message "no updates available" and that I was current???
Anyway, I just was really surprised that this was in my Yahoo Mail. I checked my Hotmail, nothing suspect there yet.
