Hi all, after cutting my finger and a considerable amount of swearing I decided to ask for advice on the best way to strip the plastic coating off of the end of a wire so I can re-wire an old bridge lamp. I always seem to damage myself when doing that part of the task. Advice?

And if you DO get stuck somewhere you have to use a knive to cut the insulation off you want to just score it all the way around and not cut down to the metal because the copper is so soft it will be marked there and have a place for a crack to start and break off.
When you make a pig tail put it under the screw head in the clockwise direction that the head will draw it in when you tighten it down.

Also, many plyers have a small "wire cutter" built-in, right by the hanle. If you grab the wire with it,not too tight, and gently "chew" a small cut all around (turning the wire as you go), soon, you will be able to pull the unwanted plastic. But don't squeeze too hard, or you will cut through the copper. You can do the same thing with scisors.
