I got addicted to that show (The Learning Channel). For those who have never seen it, its two neighbors who agree to let each other redecorate a room in their home. I would love to decorate my neighbors, but no way would I let them decorate me, lol.
On some of the shows, I gasp with horror what someone does to their neighbors room. Peach walls and red furniture; Dark gray walls with sailcloths cut as ceiling decorations; stripes on the walls or worse yet, painting the couch and loveseat. Yes, someone PAINTED the couch! I get good ideas from the show, but the best part is when they gasp after being led in to the room and told they can open their eyes to see the room just done by their "friends" and they burst into tears, saying they LOVE it, when the look on their face says otherwise.
Who would let someone else decorate a room in their house? Not me.

Now, now remember Bob it is still prime time on the west coast here in the States so be careful, this isn't like WSUTL!!

There was one where the woman said she didn't care but DO NOT paint the fireplace - it held a special signifigance for her.
Guess what? They painted the fireplace!
She cried
I have watched many episodes of that show and I don't think I would have been very happy with any of the rooms they did. Now, if Home Again shows up at my doorstep I will just hand them my house keys and let them go to work

I LOVE that show!...Unfortunately, it's currently all re-runs, so I'm jonsin' for a new episode!...Their ideas may be off the wall sometimes (did ya see the time they glued moss to the wall?....Or what they called the "beatlejuice" room?), BUT I have picked up quite a few ideas (in concept form) from the show & have learned to be a bit braver when it comes to decorating & building furniture (benches, shelves, etc)....

I havent liked most of the rooms they did, but I do like the ideas too, Rancher. Did you see the one where that guy painted just a small section of the wall, on a corner beam, what the casual observer would think as brick showing through plaster? I thought that was so cool. Gave it that "old world" effect. Ebay would call it "shabby chic"
There are 3 interior decorators that should be taken back for a refund because they are color blind or something. And one (the girl) has an attitude about what SHE wants the room to be, not what the neighbor wants.
Love the guy that cuts the wood. Hes cute, and funny. What a combo

hepburn....Yup, saw the faux brick, wasn't it on an archway?...The decorator, Frank, even mixed in some dirt from the yard for texture...He's an excellent painter & usually tries to match his design to the home owners likes/needs. Ty is the wood guy....Soooooo adorable & sooo amusing!!!....My favorite designers are Frank & Genevive (long blond hair)...&...my least favorite is the dark haired female with the hypenated name (can't remember it)...She's the one who painted that poor guys bedroom black when that was the ONLY thing he said he didn't want...HILDE, that's her name!...
Did you check out the web site?....They've got the bio's of the designers + stories from behind the scenes written by the home owners. Very interesting to see who left the rooms & who redid them....
Oh, from what I've read at another forum, Alex (the female host) will be gone this season, with a new replacement. Shows have begun filming....can't wait till there are new episodes. Even my DH liked watching the show...Will see if that is still true if Alex is gone!...LOL!
~ Rancher
Edited to add, if you're into the decorating stuff, I found a great forum with super ideas...Since listing it here is forboden (sp?) you can email me at [email protected] if you are interested....

Email is on its way! Thanks!
I dont like that one decorator..cant think of her name, but she argued with that couple who wanted a fireplace (even faux) in the room, and Alex even said "its THEIR choice".
Ty! Thats his name! What a cutey!

BBC has a corresponding show called Trading Places I believe.
If you think Trading Spaces is bad, you should see the design ideas of their crew. I watched the final episode last night and the neighbors hated the results. I wonder if the shows pay to have them redo their rooms when that happens.

My favorite is when the room as WONDERFUL antique wood floors. "Gotta sand and paint them... It will add an entire dimention to the room!"
"LOOK WHAT YOU DID TO MY FLOORS! WHY DID YOU DO THAT? OH MY GOD!"
Many of the designers for that show are like flies. Their taste is in their feet.

Ah, the British version is called Changing Rooms. I watched it this afternoon and they did a really nice job on each one's kitchen.

I watched one today, which was a rerun but one I missed and I must say they did very well this time around. BUT, I groaned out loud when they PAINTED the dining room furniture. OMG...it was beautiful rich wood, and they PAINTED it. I wouldve killed 'em.
