What is your favorite oldies band to listen to? I had a track on with Angel Baby, Backfield in Motion, and Soldier Boy and then Soundgarden Came on! My favorite oldies group! "BLACK HOLE SUN!"

If you're talking rock bands, then I guess my all-time favorite is the Beatles, though I like quite a few. And even more individual singers.
But if you're talking just plain bands, then my favorite would be the Redman Orchestra, a black big band of the 20s & 30s.

I will look into Soundgarten. I'm afraid I stopped listening much to new music in the 1970s & only catch snatches now & then in movies or in other people's cars, so there are a lot of groups from the past 30 years that I missed totally.

Hi Bunni, I have had the children raising years, from late 70's to mid 90's. (I was out of contact with music--it was Baseball, Soccer and Violin Lessons). My honey has tapes from those years that feature "Head Banger Balls" from MTV. Looking over those years, glad I was busy with my babies! What was everyone thinking?
But just coincidently with my youngest getting his wings, found the late 90's music and so happy to! Especially the local Pittsburgh groups that have sorta made it big time and not, The Clarks, The Gathering Field, Sleeping Giant. And the Seattle Bands that rock. And one of my personal favorites, Kenny Wayne Shephard. A little babe, but he does know his way about a guitar fretboard.

Hi JamesO--looks like you could open a whole new field of music for me..Buddy Holly is the only recognizable name. I LOVE MUSIC!
Spaz--that is your opinion. I happen to disagree and love listening to the Seattle Groups cd's. (Ummm--except for Black Crowes--opinion is still out. Yep--don't get them.)

Yeah, I know. Mudhoney never achieved the commercial success of those other bands. They're mainly a pleasure for rock and roll geeks like me.
In the world at large they're most known for being the band that didn't become Pearl Jam (the band Green River split and the members formed Mudhoney and Pearl Jam. One band sells out arenas and the other band opens for 'em).

I just saw Richie Havens, Tom Rush, Judy Collins, Arlo, David Bromberg, Janis Ian, and a few other old folkies at the Philly Folk Festival.

James, he did the best set I've seen in years. And his voice is still there. He closed with Freedom, and near the end, he was so impassioned, he jumped up and around, knocked his stool over, and never missed a note. Amazing!!!!

Our local Oldies station, (in the thumb area of Michigan) changed it's format to the Adult Standard format which is the yawning Dean Martin, Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day crew. Needless to say, when they did that, I changed my radio to the higher budget and more professional Detroit Oldies station. I also listen to Oldies from SW Ontario radio.
I'm 43 and have listened to Oldies since about 1970, when Oldies were rock hits from 12 - 15 years eariler.

I always love hearing Roy Orbison songs. I don't know anyone who could compare to his style. I don't know if you call this an oldie, but I adore Stevie Ray Vaughan!
