I am looking for a new place for my family to go on vacation next year. We've done Disney and Florida coast (Clearwater Beach - beautiful!), Wisconsin Dells and other things. The one area of our country that I've never been is the Northeast/New England. We all love the ocean and beach, so I'm looking for a good place for us to spend our summer vacation next year.

I'm looking for clean beaches, not too crowded or expensive - maybe a place where we can rent a house for the week or so. We always drive, we love driving to new places/areas of our beautiful country!

It may seem early to plan, but I need to check out places, figure out how much $ we'll need....and so on. I don't know anything about vacationing in the Northeast. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You can find some nice beaches up there but be aware the water is so cold you are not going to do much swimming.
There are a lot of really nice other things to do on the water however. We wnt to Bar Harbor Maine and although the town is a little touristy it is real nice and about the furthest North that nice accomadations are easily available.
The drive up the Mountain in the National Park is nice and the view spectacular.
we camped out and ate lobster near every night cooked on a wood fire.
Another fun thing is we took a ride on the mail boat that goes out to the small islands where people live year 'round.
We also wnt out with a fellow who takes passengers on his lobster boat as he brings his pots up.
There are a number of museams down the coast from there that have to do with ship buiding that are interesting.
After Sept. things get a lot quieter and cheaper but a lot of restaurants close up.

Hampton Beach, New Hampshire
Ogonquin, Maine
There is too much scenic beauty on the New England Coast to just park yourself on the beach. This is the vacation to spend most of the time exploring and seeing the scenery, both on the coast and inland......and eating lots and lots of lobster.
