In the crazy battle between the Detroit cops and the FBI and Justice Department a local judge agreed with the local cops (surprise) that the Justice Department could not have any informmation about police internal matters because it violated the Detroit police UNION WORK RULES. Why didn't I think of that? Just kill the people I want while at work and my union will protect me. All part of the job description right? Well he has reversed himself so now maybe they will all strike - I can hope. It wouldn't make any big difference on public safety. If you call to ask for help a 3 or 4 hour response time is common.

Mornin' Gravid - What's your take on how this Dept. of Justice investigation is going to turn out?

They will bring charges against a few individuals but there is no real feasable way to correct the culture of the entire force.
What are they going to do? Put someone in over them to supervise? That would not solve it.
They reason the police are corrupt is that the whole city government is corrupt. The one follows the other. If they had clean cops the politicians would be in trouble so they make sure they have police who can be controlled.

The amount of money that flows through the city is fantastic. Not only the legitimate industry and casinos but the underground economy and drugs and other illegal items.
When the went to search the former police chief's house he had $250,000 fall out of his ceiling tiles in the kitchen. He explained that that was just his poker playing money.
I believe him.

I don't have any real solution except to stay out of the city myself. I won't work or spend my money down there. I even drive around if I can instead of cut through.
