This past weekend, while out saleing, I was involved in a "drive-by stinging", the second time in 3 years. Driving along, simply looking for the next loaded driveway, WHOOSH into the open window flies a bee, who stings me right on the chest (remember "Rancher"is a lady!) and then flies out!....OUCH! NONE of my friends have EVER had this experience & I wondering if it's just me they "like" so much????....Anyone else get stung in a drive-by? Or have another interesting/weird bee sting story to share??

We were riding around the back roads of Pennsylvania one time when my husband, who was driving, let out a big yell and quickly pulled off the road. A bee or yellowjacket had flown in the window of the car and stung him on the calf.

When I was five, I took an Oreo apart and put half of it in my mouth - but not before a bee landed on it. It stung me in the mouth.

Two memorable bee stings in my life.

The First: for some reason, when I was about 7 or 8 years old, I thought that catching bees was interesting. The only trouble was, I used my bare hands. I would gently catch them, then open my fist and watch them fly away. All went well until one bee, evidently taking umbrage at this cavalier treatment, instead walked up my middle finger & stung me on the tip of it. I was on the next block from home & my roars of displeasure brought a kindly woman out of her house & she treated the sting before sending me home.

The Second: when I was in seventh grade, backpacks, brief cases, etc. had not appeared on the scene yet. We carried our books the old-fashioned way: in our arms. One day I failed to notice that a bee had landed on the front of my blouse. I swung my books & binder up into my arms to carry in front of me--unfortunately, the bee (possibly a relative of the other long-gone bee) took umbrage at being squashed in this maneuver and stung me. My stomach developed a very interesting "target" pattern consisting of red and white rings radiating out from the point of "impact."

Rancher...

Were you wearing perfume? I quit wearing it in the summer because bees were constantly landing on me...I'm not fond of bugs, to say the least. Not ON me anyway. That pretty much stopped the problem. I wear "Joy," - possibly it's the brand?

Only 2 stings, and they were my own fault...stepped on the poor things and they were ticked...

Were you wearing perfume?

At 50 mph, the bee is going to sniff out perfume?

It's been about 5 years since the last time I was stung. It happened at night, after I stepped on a ground hive. Had it been daylight I probably would have gotten it much worse, but even so I received 8-10 stings on my legs (wouldn't you know it, I was wearing shorts). Fortunately I'm not allergic. Still, it hurt a lot that night, then itched horribly after the pain faded.

Spaz you've been hiding! Just a doomsday note for you; after you have been bitten by yellow jackets that many times it is very likely that you will be sensitized if bitten by any hornet or member of the bee family. Most nasty sting in the northeast is the white faced wasp.

Happened my husband and my brother both had been bitten multiple times by ground nesting yellow jackets...just a little discomfort.
Next time they were stung both required emergency treatment. My husband now carries an anaphylactic emergency kit at all time.

It wasn't my first time, zilvy. Back in the mid-80s while trimming bushes with an electric hedge clipper I came within striking distance of a hive. The inhabitants did a painful dance on my forearm and face. Took five or six hits that time. Interesting to note, though, in light of what you said, that the pain in that earlier instance wasn't half of what it was in the most recent attack.

As for white-faced wasps, I would say I hate them but Helen might accuse me of reverse discrimination.

I remember my great grandmother telling me about when she was a little girl and a bee stung her right between the eyes. Ouch!!!

I've only been stung once, which is probably a miracle as much as I used to play outside when I was a kid. I was in high school, talking to some friends outside, when suddenly a yellow jacket swooped down, landed on my finger, zapped me, and flew away.

I did get chased by a wasp when I was 9 or 10. Boy, you should have seen me run!
