A billboard company refused to accept PETA's advertisement.

Would you give your right arm
to know why sharks attack?
Could it be revenge? Go vegetarian.

I guess they thought it was kind of cute. The head of their advertising/public relations department needs an extended vacation.

If God didn't want man to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

I can't imagine what it would be like to be a victims family member and drive by such a sign.
It just re-inforces my already extremely low opinion of and repugnance towards PETA.

It seems their compassion doesn't extend very far.

I'm surprised at PETA's poor taste.

humans are much more of a danger to sharks than sharks are to us

And this is supposed to be a bad thing?

Maybe they were trying to suggest that sharks won't attack vegetarians. The part that really made me roll my eyes is they wanted to put the billboard up near the site where the 8 year had his arm bitten off according to the article in my local paper. Their appeal for compassion through such uncompassionate means really made them look like idiots.

PETA is clueless. We eat animal meat. Do you think for a second, if the roles were reversed, animals would act the same way? Darn straight they would!! You are only deluding yourself if you don't think the mink would hesitate to wear your pelt on his back.

I'm in to Human survival. If the secret to my continued existence rests on attaching a living monkey's brain to a car battery, I have only two questions.

Which side do I attach the postitive?
Which side do I attach the negative?

They have, and will, if they can. Humans have been prey for wolves, big cats, crocks, and other carnivorous animals (more so before the invention of gun powder).

Which is exactly why this kind of free speech ought to be allowed.

I agree with you on that, roofguy. Free speach needs to be free for all, at all times. We just need to dicern(sp, I know) between the crackpots and the people who mean good.

Maybe you'll all hate me for this opinion but I don't think they should have pulled the ad. If you relate it to a poster or ad with a picture of a mangled car, you wouldn't think about having it pulled for the sake of all the people that died in car accidents.

People need to become educated. How many decades have we politely told people that drink alcohol not to drive a vehicle? Politeness doesn't work with people but shocking facts do.

People need to become aware of how sharks operate, habitat, when they feed etc. If you don't learn, then your chances of being attacked by a shark are heightened. Just like driving a car.....if you swin in the ocean, you could be attacked by a shark.......know the rules to protect yourself and don't blame it on the animals all the time.

Would you agree that becoming a vegetarian would have little or no impact on preventing you from a shark attack? Maybe if being a vegetarian made you so anemic you couldn't swim it could aid in shark attack prevention. PETA's ill advised advertisement was using a tragic event and making light of it.

Would you approve of an advertisement for Sony Play Stations that said, "Don't go out for entertainment like the folks on TWA 800 did, get a Sony Play Station and let your living room be your favorite place."

Maybe a shower company could advertise, "Andrea Yates didn't have our standup shower unit, maybe you should consider purchasing one."

I don't hate you for your view, I politely disagree, and I appreciate your opposing view.

uaru - . I think there were 2 messages in that PETA statement. 1 was to become educated about sharks and 2 was to maybe think that the sharks were getting revenge on us humans for slaughtering them for food.

I would not approve of any advertisements that included names or faces of people for shock-value, but I do believe that some people do not understand the consequences of things until there is a shocking story or a movie star died, etc. I would like to see more people that frequent swimming in the ocean become more aware of the dangers involved and instead of blaming the shark (or whatever), take some responsibilty for their part in the incident.
