My wife occassionally watches that Crossing Over on the sci/fi channel on the 'other' TV. Drives me nuts (admittedly it is a short trip)
Man has been trying to speak to the dead since the first time a loved one died. I believe if it was possible it would have become a science by now.
I think a lot of people take advantage of other's grief.

I was going to start this thread last week but got too disgusted to even write the first sentence. It's sick that this guy gets a TV show that really is nothing more than a daytime infomercial.

Ok, tough question. I believe people can be more sensitive to things like that but I believe he leads them into it. One the other hand, if telling them that their departed loved ones are fine and happy on the other side, that's not hurting anything (unless they are paying $3.99 a minute). Now when Miss Cleo sends me an email (I've received 2 so far) saying she has recently spoken to someone close to me and I need a reading, that's something different. I do believe in spirits and a little of the supernatural simply because I want to. I don't mess with Ouija boards though. I have a bad feeling about them. Hey, maybe I'm psychic!!! All jokes aside, there has been too much documented to say it just does not exist.

He and his like are very good con artists. The fact that this man has his own show just rips my shorts. He takes advantage of people in their most fragile moments. It's side show trickery and nothing more.

I believe man has a soul--a very strong spirit within that does not die when the body does. I don't believe that something this strong just disappears when a person dies--I think it can go on to heaven, hell, or just hang around for a while. I think our brain is so limited (we only use 3%) that it is beyond our capability to fully understand this.
<p> I also believe that there are too many everyday "hunches" to be just coincidence. How many times have we said "I had a feeling something was wrong," or "I was just thinking about you" or even "It felt like somebody was watching me." If ordinary people can have these ESP feelingswhy can't someone like John Edwards have that part of his psyche more developed? We readily accept talents like musical, mechanical, or writing abilities that are present in people for no apparent reason--why can't we accept that someone is psychic gifted, and is able to more easily pick up the vibes (or whatever you want to call it) from a lingering spirit? Just like musical ability or other talents, I think many of us have psychic abilities, but just don't know how to use them or we ignore those feelings or signs that are actually much more than hunches.

Joyce,
I was one of those "psychic gifted" types as a child. Never did anything monumental (except being clairvoiant), but was heavily influenced by my mother's interest in ESP. We even had a Kresgin's ESP board game. This stuff works! Later, I got into Ouija boards and talked with different spirits. I became more and more interested in the occult as time went on. I became a Christian and I saw all of this psychic phenomena in a new and different light. Based on what I read in the bible I don't believe that people hang around after they die, but their familiar spirit can. I don't want to go into a long diatribe on this, but we are talking about light and darkness and human beings by nature are too easily deceived into believing a lie and evil spirits know this. Although man is a spiritual being, I don't believe we were created to journey into the spiritual realm the way we can blaze new trails in music or poetry. We are far too intrigued and eager to learn from anyone (or anything) about "the other side". Yes, there is definitely a world of spirits out there, but it's not made up of those like somebody's "Aunt Haddie" brought back from a seance. It's totally different than what you think or may even believe. I would caution anyone and everyone to stay away from it. For what it's worth, just some of my thoughts.

I USED to believe...even went to a book signing of his at a local bookstore...But after I read some of the links provided here sometime ago when this issue was raised, I just don't believe anymore. His apprearance on Larry Kind last night was a joke. During the part I watched 4 or 5 callers & he didn't get one right, not ONE connection..Even Larry was "amused" by his lack of powers.....
I do believe that there are energies from those in our lives that have passed & if we allow ourselves to be open to them, we can communicate with them. Not necessarily in a standard "speaking/hearing" conversation, but we can communicate feelings. People like Edwards are taking advantage of people desperate to make contact with passed love ones (IMO)
Here in NY, his show is now on channel 2, everyday in the afternoon.

Femme,
I agree with you. I don't think anyone can communicate with the dead either, but they can and do communicate with something else. The evidence for this is far too overwhelming to suggest only a hoax. The bible clearly explains all of this. Unfortunately, many reject the bible or don't know what it says about the paranormal. Rather, folks would rather listen to Edwards and many like him who themselves, have likewise been lied to.

I am a believer. I have not seen anyone, I am far too scared to look. My daughter has seen and heard her Gram, but that was covered in an older post.
