Right now, everybody seems to agree that Osama Bin Laden or some other Arab faction was responsible for this tragedy. But I can't help wondering when the inevitable conspiracy theories will rear their ugly heads.
You know the type:
"It was really the Israelis, trying to frame the Arabs and drum up support for their cause."
"It was really American citizens, trying to provide an incentive for the Government to wipe out terrorists once and for all."
Etc.
I was just thinking about this as I heard a report that a car was discovered here in Boston containing a bunch of aircraft flight manuals in Arabic. It seems a bit convenient that these would be left behind where they could be found so easily, almost as if they were planted there to place the blame.
All I know is that I hope we conclusively determine who was behind all this before we take retaliatory action...

I still believe that Hussien had a hand in this. Sure this Bin Laden too, but reports were that Baghdad was celebrating yesterday, no film of it, just someone on TV late night reporting it. I guess its a theory,but I think he should have been taken out years ago.

So I think we'd be warranted, Barry, to wonder a bit about things that seem too convenient.

And so it begins....
CNN is reporting that some Iranian "hard-liners" are now saying that only the "Zionists" i.e.. Israelis] have the means to have launched a campaign such as this, the implication being that the Israelis did it to frame the Arabs. As this pronouncement was made, Iranians in the crowd began chanting "Death to Israel".
Sometimes I really hate being right....

And you can go the other way -- about 10 minutes after the last dust is swept up some expert in indonesia will announce it was an American hoax just like the moon landing and the holocaust and it was all done in hollywood by special effects people. The pictures of the buildings before are all fakes inserted in the record to authenticate the hoax.
Think I am nuts? - people are that weird.

Osama Bin Laden has now been quoted as saying that he had nothing to do with the attack and that it must have been the Americans themeselves who did this.

They say that Barbara Olsen, on one of the planes, called her husband, Ted, and asked him what she should tell the pilot to do. I've never heard what his response was. He must have told her to tell the pilot to crash into the Pentagon, 'cause that's what happened. It all makes sense now.

Anyone notice that the shuttle was in orbit when these planes were taken control of? We all know how airplanes have been operated by remote control since the days of World War 2. Does anyone really believe that Bush was out of Washington on a education conference in Florida by accident? Only the Bilderbergs ( 11 letters! ) would have the resources for such an operation. The political and economic chaos that would result would serve their agenda very well.
Oh, as to your question, the conspiracies begin before the bodies are buried. A more difficult question is when the conspiracies are put to rest, since Pearl Harbor is still viewed as an conspiracy 60 years after the fact you can rest assured that the Sept. 11 attack will have conspiracies with lives longer than your lifespan.
A conspiracy theory is an amazing thing, you don't have to prove it, you just submit it and demand others disprove it. Talk shows and book contracts await those that are the most skilled in the art.

So...
Anybody see the pilot episode of Fox's "The Lone Gunmen"? You know, the one where U.S. arms dealers take over an airplane and plan to fly it into the World Trade Center and blame terrorists for the act, thereby causing the market for their product to rise?
Somehow, I don't think they'll be rerunning that episode anytime soon....

When they were interviewing all these terrorism-experts there was one that made sense to me. He said he did not think Bin Laden was the Big Guy, because he drew too much attention to himself. And that he drew attention to himself in order to deflect the attention from the real Big Guy(s). I don't think all the planes were down 8 hours yet.
