NBC News is stating at this moment that a bomb sniffing dog has given a positive response to a package found in the Empire State Building!
The building has been evacuated.

A school and a Wal-Mart in a small nearby town had bomb threats, were evacuated and closed today. I bet this is happening all over at important and unimportant places. Could be that. Could be real.

A bomb threat is one thing. But this is a bomb dog giving a positive response to a package that has been found.
Hopefully this is one of the times the dog is mistaken...but these dogs tend to be spot on. They are tested frequently (no matter what they are trained to sniff, from explosives to drugs to agricultural products) and retired if they "lose their nose."

Dan Rather just reported a little while ago that the reports of the evacuation of the Empire State building and Penn Stations were rumors and cautioned that we will probably hear a lot of rumors over the next few days and to try and verify the reports by several sources before accepting them as valid! I was rather surprised that a news person would admit that sometimes in an effort to get the "scoop", mistakes may be made!
