I've noticed from reading Hepburns "What is your State?" thread that quite a few AWers live close to military bases. So my question is:
Do you feel safer living near a military base? Or does it raise your anxiety? I, for some odd reason, feel safer. Just curious.

Actually I don't feel any more or less safe then I did 2 months or 12 months ago.
These Terrorist have been around for many years be they US terrorist or international nothing has changed but the Goverments stand on terrorist and the number of people killed and injuried in a single attack.
The government has been playing a game of tolerance for many years, and cutting budgets since the earily 80's like the wolrd was safe from all evil sie the end of the cold war.

I agree dman3, but the reason I ask is because I knew absolutely nothing of the attacks until 11am EST on Sept. 11. I normally turn the radio on when I get my children up for school...but that morning we were running late, so I didn't. I rarely watch television..so didn't hear until my husband called at 11 and told me..at first I thought he was kidding! I couldn't believe it! So when I saw the news I was way behind on info. One of my first thoughts, besides outrage and sorrow, was what about our military bases.

At times i feel safer like when i hear the fighter jets go over our house but sometimes i think they might come after out military bases and then what. I don't know. Ever since this has happened it is all really scary to think about that you could lose your family in the blink of an eye wether it be you that gets taken or them. I just look over my shoulder so to speak a little more than i use to.

We are close to Selfridge air base - but we are also close to the tank plant - the plant that builds cruise missile engines - all sorts of defense related things - but I see these terrorists going for civilian targets - populations. Bases are spread out and too well guarded and too equiped to respond compared to cities.
