Yes it is true! For all you carnivores who have grown accustomed to that toothsome delight, our government has now put an end to trade in disabled livestock:

WASHINGTON - Injured cattle are being spared a trip to the slaughterhouse. McDonald's and other hamburger chains will no longer buy beef from cattle that are unable to walk. Neither will the government, which supplies meat to schools.
Check out the last line in the article. It sounds like an issue needing some sort of nationwide contest.
