All these powders are just loose - doesn't anyone have sufficient inventivness to make some sort of a spring loaded tube or compressed air source to PUFF it out when it is opened?
The fellow Q from the bond movies would be disappointed - There is no drama in the delivery.

they wont know for days if its anthrax..what disappoints me is we live in a society where some people would do this as a practical joke. a prank phone call was dangerous when I was a kid...what kind of person would ever get a kick out of such a thing.
and there are so many pockets of fanatical groups right here in the u.s. it would be hard to know where to start if it is anthrax and not a prank.

They had a guy on TV tonight - Detroit local news and he phoned in a threat from a payphone about anthrax and the cops rolled up while he was still there. He is being charged with threatening the use of weapons of mass destruction which can give hime life in prison. HaHa

Saw on CNN they say ONLY 5 years but a $3 million dollar fine OUCH.

our state has a game commission that is very limited in size but if they catch anyone killing a bird of prey or song bird they nail them in a big way. the example of punishment works. everyone fears them. the chances are slim they can catch someone but when they do they hit them very hard, it works!! I hope we make examples of a couple of the punks who are anthrax pranksters.

Nice to see you back breinhold

I think you're making a good point gravid. It seems very curious...the distribution of the this anthrax powder is in such small scale, in such small proportions, with a well known, readily available treatment if exposed. A deadly bacteria in the hands of some real amatuers. Makes no sense.

Well, I'm in the north Georgia/Chattanooga area, and three of our local post offices found a "powdery substance" in their mail equipment today. They closed all three locations and halted mail service to 25,000 people.

They haven't said yet if it was anthrax, or a sick hoax, or what (it's supposed to take 2 days to find out). They did say that they've isolated several pieces of machinery where the powder was found, but do expect to resume mail delivery tomorrow.

The affected post offices are just minutes from my home, but my own post office wasn't affected. My father's business mail and my in-laws' mail does come from one of these post offices, though. My dad's business and my in-law's house happen to be on the same street, across from each other. My dad received his mail this morning, but apparently the powder was discovered before the carrier delivered my in-laws' mail -- that side of the street didn't get mail service today.

It's worrisome to me that my dad received mail that could possibly have been processed along with a contaminated letter or package. They're telling people not to become alarmed if they've come into contact with the mail in the affected zip codes, but that "Good personal hygiene never hurts," ... "Wash your hands. If you feel your clothes are contaminated, wash them."

Here's a link to the main page of the Chattanooga newspaper, which gives a bit of information, but registering is required to read the full article (registering is free, though).

Yikes.

I hope they make some serious examples of these people that are stupid enough to generate hoaxes. They need to publicize their arrests and the punishment they'll be facing.

My wife said she had one parent come to school in a hysterics to remove her 4 children and take them to the doctor to be tested for Anthrax. Apparently she just learned of the scares today.

I didn't clean up very well in the kitchen and when my wife spotted some flour left on the kitchen counter she asked me if she should call CNN or Fox News first. (yes she was joking)

See neatness counts uaru...that could have been very embarassing to have the kitchen police come in for inspection!! No more white flour, only whole wheat!

I personaly am worried about Gravid who mentioned in an unementionable thread that he uses gold bond powder...someone following him around might report traces of white powder if he is not really careful!

I wouldn't do it but, wouldn't it be interesting to see the flight attendant's expression if you were to pull a pack of powder sugar donuts out of your briefcase and wink at them.

At some point the world is going to have to stop freaking out over white powder. I never resorted to rolling up a $100 bill and start snorting the first white powder I saw when I was foot loose and fancy free. I think it's equally silly to call in the bioterrorist decontamination team at every discovery of white powder also.

I never thought of that....anything in powdered form being totally banned. I wonder if sugar would be banned? It would be difficult to imagine life without sugar.

I can see where pretty soon it is going to require an FBI background check and a Federal license to be a chef. You not only have access to all those white powders but sharp knives also.

the anthrax hoaxes are a red flag. a wake up call for our society. I have a very weird sense of humor however our society has lost a sense of responsibility. I am not a prude at all, yet television is offensive even at 5:00. comedians know no boundaries. rudeness is everywhere. nothing is taken seriously. I saw this slowly happen in the last decade. 25 years ago the saying was "nobody likes a smart ass" now everyone IS a smart ass. is it any wonder we have anthrax hoaxes? I have no agenda , and I am against censorship but censorship is not the problem. there is no need for censorship if people are taught common sense and respect.
I am not a fanatic by any means , I am just a guy that still opens doors for strangers and shakes his head when people don't even say thank you. that sounds unimportant I know but it is a sign of the times. 30 years ago I was considered a liberal......I have not changed....but NOW I am considered a conservative. what is wrong with this picture. should a president have to tell the media to stop leaking information? that alone is a serious sign of how irresponsible we have become. after the anthrax case in Florida this statement was made in an interview about the paper targeted with anthrax``You have to assume that he (Atta) went into stores all around this area
and saw American Media magazines. We are a symbol of the American culture,''
said Coz. NOW THAT IS A CHILLING STATEMENT.
during the last administration the only thing worse than Clintons sexual behavior was the fear of my 8 year old daughter constantly hearing about oral sex on the 5:00 news over and over again. I still cant decide what was worse Clintons behavior or the media....I lean towards the media. I cannot believe I now know what direction a former presidents genitals point and where his mole is.......kind of hard for young people to take anything very serious with that kind of ground breaking journalism.
I am sure I will get attacked for this post ,but really we need to clean up our act in a big way. like I said I am no prude and I use locker room talk all the time....but only in the locker.
room. what does this have to do with anthrax hoaxes? everything

Why are the terrorists inefficiently mailing the anthrax ? Because we were on to them about using crop dusting planes.

The "experts" say it would take several hundred pounds of anthrax dusted over a city to cause massive fatalities.

As I said in another post, these terrorists would not have been looking at crop dusting planes if they didn't have the pathogen already here in the U.S. and have it in large quantities.

Not it is reported that anthrax has been found in the ventilation system at the US Capital building.

If these guys were able to get this poison into the Capital's ventilation system, then there isn't a building safe in the U.S..

HOW could this anthrax have been placed in the Capital's ventilation system after 9-11-01 ? It could not have come from a letter being opened up, unless staffers open the letters in front of the vent intakes.

Next these bastards will be dumping anthrax from the roofs of tall buildings onto crowded streets.

Another problem with dumping anthrax from rooftops and putting it into ventilation systems is that victims will not know about it until it is too late.

There may be hundreds of buildings already infected and the occupants don't know it. We could be setting on a public health catastrophy that won't show up for 7 - 10 days.

Looks like my previous post was prophetic. Now the NY governor's office has detected anthrax in the building.

The pranksters are sick, but this is going to get to the point where someone is going to put powder on a baby's butt in a public washroom, and the next person in the washroom see's a little powder, and we close down a building over it.

breinhold, I couldn't agree with you more. We're out of balance. Some will catch on, some won't, so you just have to do your part the best way you can. I think you're on the right road though.
