"The jury's cited reasons for opposing capital punishment included the fear
that it would turn the bombers into martyrs and further their terrorist cause. The
jury also stated the view that life in prison would be a harsher punishment than
death by lethal injection. "

My memory is fuzzy, but didn't a couple of (terrorists) defendants in the *first* WTC incident receive life in prison, instead of the death penalty?

What scares me is the fact they may be able to interact with other prisoners, use the prison system for communicating with others and generally spread their hate and violence even further.
Of course, if we are smart, we will keep them confined away from the general prison population. Anyone know anything about how terrorists are handled in prison?

lindajean--I don't think they would survive long if they did. Lot of patriotic prisoners would love to carry out the execution

Actually, Julesy, your memory is crystal clear. The FIRST WTC bombers WERE sentenced to life, even though they were eligible for the death penalty. This was shortly after Timothy McVeigh was executed.
Now, I guess we could get into a discussion over whether the Death Penalty is applied equally in this country. Sure doesn't look like it to me.

To die in the name of allah is drummed into the future terrorists from a very young age. Why should we give them that privilige so they can become hero's.?I think it is by far more fitting to let them be humiliated and scorned and (who knows what else),by the prison population. That's is a fitting sentence. I hear the prison populations hate terrorists and child abusers.
