I have spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to transfer folders to a floppy from Outlook Express. I went to the Help Section but they did not provide instructions on how to do this.

Any Help???

Thanks Pocono. I edited this because I did find the store and in windows explorer i found the folders. Then when I clicked to copy to a: it says can not copy files to a: Directory or file can not be created. huh

This is crazy. I hate outlook express at this moment. I have a lot of emails I just want to file away and not delete from two years.

How large are the files you are trying to copy to the floppy? I just took a look at ours, and some are well over the 1.4mb that would fit on a floppy. Do you have another way to back up your files? A writable cd rom or Zip drive?

Meya: Sorry for taking so long to answer your question. I was so disgusted with the computer I didn't bother to turn it on yesterday!!

I am not sure of the size but the first folder I tried to copy had two emails and they were about two sentences long each. So couldn't be very large.

Have you kept your mail folders "Compacted"? Even after deleting emails, if the folder isn't compressed, the size will not reduce. Clean out all of your mail folders of unwanted mail, don't forget to empty the Deleted Items folder and the Sent Items folder. Then choose File/Folder/Compact all Folders. If you aren't compacting the folders on a regular basis, your deleted emails are technically "still there", even though you can't see them.

Then go into Windows Explorer, and browse to the Store folders, and see how big in file size the individual folders are. If they are less than 1.4mb, you can copy and paste the folders to a floppy disk.

You didn't know it, but I was waiting for the answer too. My husband had no idea how to do it, and he's smarter than I am about this stuff. I hadn't compacted my e-mails either.
Now that I know where they are and how to do it, we'll be floppying ours too.
Thanks

1. Either in Outlook/Tools/Services or in the Control Panel/Mail, Add a Personal Folder and select the location as being on the floppy or Zip disk. Make certain the disk in question is in the drive. Create the Personal Folder and give it a name you can recognize. If a Personal Folder already exists on your hard drive, just copy it to the floppy or Zip. It'll have the format Name.pst if it exists.

2. If it was created in Outlook it can be seen by using the View/Folder List. If it was created from the Control Panel/Mail, then in Outlook click File/Open/Personal Folder or it might say Data File if Outlook 2002. Browse to location and click Open. It can be seen in the View/Folder List window now.

3. Click on the Inbox to make it current. Drag any email you want to save into the Personal Folder. If you've created folders, just drag those into it as well. Keep in mind that the default Outlook folders cannot be moved, but they can be copied. Also you can create more folders in the Personal Folder to organize the email in if desired. You can either copy or drag email you want saved into them as needed.

4. Note: you can only see the email contents of the Personal Folder from Outlook. It will only be one file on the floppy or Zip. If there is a lot of email or expect the contents of the Personal Folder to grow, then I recommend putting it on a Zip disk. It'll soon outgrow the floppy.
